The first part of the reading was fundamental it opened my mind to
something new that wasn’t know to me before about the background of
fast food. I was surprised by how majority of these big companies
were started by people who dropped out of school. Something that
struck me was the fact that they say the employees steal from their
employer because of low wages because my mom always tell us that we
have to be careful if we work at a fast food restaurant because some
of the adult employees will steal from the restaurant and try to
blame it on the teenagers. I found the following quotes and they gave
me a different perspective that was always there but thru reading them
in this book and with the current events that has happened I can
really relate to them better:
1. “The harder you work, the luckier you become.” (p 13).
This quote I find to be true because many people don’t do much work to
get to where they want to be and the end up falling in a deep hole,
but others keep going and go through the obstacles that they face and
as their business builds up the more offers they get and the more
money they earn. I understand money isn’t everything but to have
money while running a business it is an accomplishment because it
shows that you can do it and they you did it.
In relation with me and I can understand this but in a different way.
I recently have been playing instant win games since on this site
everyone have been posting what they have won from them and I wanted
to enjoy this happiness too but every day I played and I would never
win anything but I didn’t give up. Well, eventually after about four
days of playing the games I had in totaled won 5 free things from a
single free product to a year supply of a product. It didn’t really
require much work besides playing the game but the fact that I kept at
it, eventually got lucky and started winning things from small and
later a big prize, and plus I am still playing the games to win even
bigger prizes is how it relates to me for if I would have gave up
before I wouldn’t have the happiness I feel from winning the things
and if I give up now my luck will not get any better.
2. "Hundreds of millions of people buy fast food every day without
giving it much thought, unaware of the subtle and not so subtle
ramifications of their purchases. They rarely consider where this food
came from, how it was made, what it is doing to the community around
them. They just grab their tray off the counter, find a table, take a
seat, unwrap the paper and dig in.... They should know what really
lurks between those sesame-seed buns. As the old saying goes: You are
what you eat," (p. 10).
This quote is also true and I relate it to the Taco bell lawsuit that
is going on because I personally never questioned the meat of taco
bell before because I in fact didn’t care about it that much because I
rarely eat the beef at Taco Bell now because I always get chicken
burritos, but the lawsuit interested me because all these fast food
restaurants have been uncovered about the food they serve like
McDonald’s chicken nuggets. It always be something I rarely eat and
that makes me unaware of the things that is going on to create the
food that I am putting in my mouth. I rarely eat fast food but the
fact that all these things are being put in the open for us to know
what we are putting in our mouth because it’s a quick fix is making me
think differently about all the things that these restaurants serve
but the question I ask is if we do research how would we know if these
things are true like in the Domino’s commercial where they show the
people their farm where they get their ingredients. How do we know
that what goes on our pizza?
