I'm a little behind on posts. --- After reading the first three
chapters of Fast Food Nation, I could easily relate the topics that
were discussed back to what we're learning in class. Fast food
pioneer, Carl Karcher altered the way he conducted his resteraunt
business in an effort to gain customers. I would connect his
modification to contagious diffusion because after encountering a new
way to conduct a resteraunt his brought the same process (idea) back
to his place. Also, I noticed that pop culture was used as a marketing
technique to make McDonald's seem more appealing to children.
Disneyland was something all the kids were attracted to, so McDonald's
tried to tie itself in to its uprising for advertisement purposes. I
believe reading this book will help me understand how fast food
eateries came about and how owners try to compete for consumer's
business. I'm enjoying the author's detailed anecdotes such as "Space
Mountain", and I'm looking forward to reading the following chapters.
