April 30- May 2, 2012
Coming this Week……
Our main focus this week will be continue to get ready for our STAR testing that will begin next week May 7 and will last for two weeks. We will be testing on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Last week we reviewed for the language arts section. This week we will be reviewing for the math section. Please do encourage your kids to take the reviews in class seriously, but we don’t want to freak them out about it either. I have no worries this class will perform well, however, it is important that we practice so that they become familiar with the format of the test. This week’s homework packet has some test prep, but it is not necessary to have the kids practice at home to a large extent.
We are also going to be working with the long o sound, the oo spelling like in book and food, how to break words into syllables, and past tense words for dictation.
Our spelling words this week will preview the kids for our upcoming unit on Our Country, Our Community. We are also talking about courage.
We continue to work on our writing of descriptive paragraphs.
We will be finishing up our unit on the life cycle of a frog.
We will also be continuing with our read aloud Matilda.
Lastly, we will be finishing up our Unit 10 in math on making change.
This unit tests on lines of symmetry, counting using numbers in the thousands, temperature change, reading a thermometer, counting change, understanding place value to the thousands place, rounding, and adding and subtracting dollars and cents.
That’s about it!! With the STAR test review we are spending a large chunk of our day working on test prep.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday May 4, 2012 Assessments: Spelling, dictation, and Unit 10 Math
Due to STAR TESTING no Herbert High Fives until after testing.
