Coming This Week…….. March 5-10, 2012

This week we will be reading a Fantasy story called “The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Backyard”. This is a fictional story about what it would be like to have a pet dinosaur. Ask your student what an herbivore is.

We will also be talking about the difference between a fact and an opinion.

In phonics and dictation we will be practicing: compound words, contractions, the ow sound as in cow spelled –ow and –ou, the th sound as in there, the ch sound as in chipmunk spelled –tch.

This writing focus for this unit will continue to be on writing descriptive paragraphs. We will be focusing on incorporating adjectives in our writing to make it more descriptive. Encourage your children to use more adjectives in their speech.

We will be learning more about adjectives. We will also be learning about the articles: the, an and a.

We will also be continuing with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our new in class reading.

In math we will be continuing with unit 8. This unit is focusing on how to represent the fractions ¼, ¾, 3/5, 3/6, 3/8, 5/8, ½, 7/8, and 1/5 using pictures. Students will be asked to represent these fractions on different shapes. This unit also works with probability, lines of symmetry and greater than, less than and equal to. We will most likely be testing on this unit Friday, March 9, 2013.

In Science we will be working on Chapter 5. This chapter is on objects in motion. Specifically, we will be reviewing what we learned in Chapter 5.

We will also be learning about specific dinosaurs. Students will be beginning to do research on Dinosaurs for a dinosaur reports.
