This week we will be reading an expository text called “Dinosaur Fossils”. This is a real-life story about how Dinosaur fossils are made and where they are found. Ask your child how most fossils are formed.

This writing focus for this unit will continue to be on writing a descriptive paragraph. We will continue to work with adjectives in our writing. We will also be focusing on writing the main idea in a topic sentence and in a concluding sentence.
We will be learning about similes and contractions.
Our focus will be on discovering the main idea in a paragraph.
We will also be continuing with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our in class reading.
In math we will be starting Unit 9. This unit will focus on measurement. We will be using the following units: yards, feet, inches, centimeters, decimeters, and miles. We will also be learning about probability, rounding, and perimeter.
In Science we will be working on Chapter 5. This chapter is on objects in motion. Specifically, we will be working on the direction an object follows when in motion. We will talk about ways an object starts moving, changes direction, and stops moving. See if you can find examples of this in everyday life. Share these acts with your child. We will also talk about how an objects speed can change by adding force, friction or energy.
This week we will also be learning about St. Patrick’s Day.
