Theproper study of history begins with a firm belief in the authoritative Word of God. Social culture, history, and geography can be evaluated correctly only when the design and purpose of God is considered. Rod and Staff's texts seek to honor God and view man and his actions in Biblical perspective.
In keeping with a Biblical perspective, these textbooks center on the place of God's people in history, instead of idealizing military heroes and super-power nations. We want to guide our students to a better understanding of God's unfolding plan for mankind rather than following man's pursuits, achievements, and culture from a humanistic perspective. More info...

With a shift towards World Geography in the 6th grade and different patterns that could be traversed even with a newer/clearer direction, the World Geography team wanted to take the best approaches employed by different organizations and provide something unique but familiar, an additional resource useful whether you're teaching through the five themes of geography, focusing on spatial thinking, or still looking at regions.
Despite sporadic opposition, the commission pushed ahead, spending a year selecting authors and friendly publishers. In October 1951, the commission announced that Raymond Dingledine, Lena Barksdale, and Marion Nesbitt would write the fourth-grade book, Francis Simkins, Sidman Poole, and Spotswood Hunnicutt would author the seventh-grade text, and Marvin W. Schlegel and Sadie E. Engleberg would write the high school book. They planned to distribute the texts to students by 1955.

This book introduces students to the basic concepts of urban studies. It is an interdisciplinary text that was developed for lower-division undergraduate students. The book is organized into thematic chapters that explore different aspects of urban life, such as the environment, housing, and culture. Each chapter introduces a new way of conceptualizing the city, presents core theories and concepts, and provides examples and case studies from cities around the globe to illustrate the ideas presented in the text. At the end of each chapter, there are review questions and a series of interactive field activities where students can apply the concepts introduced in the chapter to a real-world setting. Many of the field activities can be adapted to online or remote learning modalities. This textbook is appropriate for interdisciplinary courses with urban themes or for introductory urban studies, urban sociology, or urban geography classes.
Geography is a diverse discipline that has some sort of connection to most every other academic discipline. This connection is the spatial perspective, which essentially means if a phenomenon can be mapped, it has some kind of relationship to geography. Studying the entire world is a fascinating subject, and geographical knowledge is fundamental to a competent understanding of our world. In this chapter, you will learn what geography is as well as some of the fundamental concepts that underpin the discipline. These fundamental terms and concepts will be interwoven throughout the text, so a sound understanding of these topics is critical as you delve deeper into the chapters that follow.

On Wednesday, Roni Dean-Burren of Pearland posted a screen shot on Facebook of a text message exchange with her ninth-grade son who sent her a photo of an infographic in his McGraw-Hill World Geography textbook.
We've always done history & lit the WTM way, but I can see that there are a few holes: basic map reading skills, reading charts and graphs about population, weather & climate, stuff like that. I think dd would enjoy a well-done workbook that covered more of the practical, day to day aspects of geography & mapping.
The Carson-Dellosa Discovering the World of Geography books for gr. 5-6 (U.S.), gr. 6-7 (Western Hemisphere, and gr. 7-8 (Eastern Hemisphere) are not only mapping/charting skills, but require some actual critical thinking and interpreting skills. These are available at Amazon and Rainbow Resource. We used the gr. 6-7 and gr. 7-8 when DSs were in middle school grades, and I was pleased that they were more than just fill-in-the-blank workbooks.
For straight-up map (and chart and graph) skills practice, we used the good ole MCP Maps, Charts, Graphs series. They are great are short enough that we did 1 per semester (I think that worked out to about two 2-page spread per week). There is a slight incremental step between grade levels, but it was not a problem to work one grade level up or down from DSs current grade level, in order to do 2 workbooks per year. Some of the workbooks go together very well thematically. For example:
It looks like the Spectrum work book is 90 pages compared to 65 pages in the grade 5 MCP Maps Charts and Graphs, and the Carson-Dellosa is more text heavy and "visually gray" and runs to 115 pages. The Evan-Moor Daily Geography is more scheduled, and is set up for 150 pages over 36 weeks.
We are using Maps, Charts and Graphs and the Geography Coloring book. Honestly I am not a huge fan of either. The print quality is really poor on the MCG books and sometimes the maps are very hard to read. I don't like the coloring book because there is not enough offset from the binding and it will not lie flat. I know, very picky. =)
We began using The Geography Book last year and overall I've like it but it isn't something I could hand over to the kids and have them to (4th and 5th grades last year). We plan to complete it this year. Out of all the geography things we've tried, I've liked this the best in terms of introducing them to concepts about physical geography.
