Corporatecustomers can activate Office products within the corporate network by using the local KMS server without connecting to Microsoft activation servers on the Internet. Earlier we have already considered the peculiarities of KMS activation of MS Office 2013, and the main principles and approaches to the MS Office 2021, 2019, and 2016 activation on a KMS server remained unchanged.
After your KMS server is activated on Microsoft, the current KMS server configuration is displayed. In the Product Key Management list, the entry Name: Office 16, VOLUME_KMS_channel (Office 21, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel or Office 19, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel) with the licensing status Licensed should appear.
Close the VAT window, and press ENTER in the update tool console. The information about the installed KMS key can be obtained using SKU-ID (displayed in the final step of the KMS server installation):
Those, if you have a valid SRV DNS record for the KMS server in the domain (you can find a KMS server in a domain with the command: nslookup -type=srv _vlmcs._
tcp.woshub.com), and you installed the corporate edition of MS Office (Volume License), a copy of Office should be activated automatically after installation on a computer in an AD domain.
You can also specify the name or IP address of the KMS server through the following REG_SZ registry parameter KeyManagementServiceName in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\ (you can deploy this registry key in the domain using GPO).
GVLK Keys for Microsoft Office 2021/2019/2016All corporate Office 2021/2019/2016 versions are installed with Generic Volume License Keys (GVLK). These keys are public and accessible to everyone on Microsoft TechNet. Due to them, all Office product versions are automatically activated if there is a KMS server on the network. So, in most cases, it is not required to specify the GVLK key for Office.
If you are trying to install a KMS server for Office 2021/2019/2016 on Windows Server 2019/2016, keep in mind that it has a number of problems with the launch of the Volume Activated Services Tool. When you try to activate an Office KMS server through the Volume Activated Services GUI, you can receive an error:
If i have an environment of 100 workstation that I reimage every 6 months and i only have 120 VL of office 2016.
When I activate the 100 workstation, I will use up the 100 licenses but what if i reimage the computers on the 6 months. What will happen? will only 20 computers be activated or all 100 computers of office 2016 be activated?
Thanks
Assume I setup KMS server correctly, Is the KMS smart enough to count that I just have 100 computers with office that I reformat/activate all the time so its still 100 licenses compare to a kms counter that just keeps increasing?
Hi Great Article.
Quick question which you may be able to answer for me. We have an environment with 1000 computers. We have purchased 800 licenses initially of Office Standard 2016 and using KMS with VAMT 3.1 they activated fine.
We then went and got a further 180 licenses, but we got a different KMS and MAK key for the new 180.
Do I need to run slmgr.vbs with new KMS key and if so will this overwrite my original KMS key for the 800
End of 2020, just wanted to check in and let everybody know this works beautifully on a 2016 or 2019 server and I verified it works for activating clients with Office 2016 or Office 2019. Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial.
Hi !
Thanks for this great article.
However, when you have several GVLK keys for the same Office 2016/2019 product and that you encounter the issue to add new keys from the GUI, how can I specify multiple GVLK keys for my KMS server using the slmgr utility from command prompt ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi. I've been auditing Crossover on a Fedora 25 desktop. I am able to install Office 2013 32-bit but it will not activate. After I enter my email and password a pop-up dialogue states "Sorry, we cannot connect to your account. Please try again later." Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, not exactly the same... for me, it seems like the Windows activation service is not running:
We're sorry. something went wrong and we can't do this for your right now. Please try again later. (0x80070426)
What's more annoying, is that even the telephone activation system is busted. Selecting my country (Canada), doesn't provide me with a telephone number (OK can Google that), but the "Installation ID" is blank, and stuck with a unpopulated variable "[installation code]".
As a further note, we should clarify if we're trying to activate KMS vs. MAK. KMS is corporate and requires a local server, MAK is Micrsoft activation directly.
(I'm trying for MAK, I have a retail key)
Would you please elaborate on how you managed to activate? I follow the link you posted but it only redirects me to the Crossover 16 announcement.
I'm not sure about you but I'm already running CrossOver 16 and stil am unable to activate.
If you are having activation issues, I would encourage you to submit a support ticket. We have seen this issue occur with a few of our other users but it looks like it can be a variety of things that are causing MS Office 2013 not to activate.
Some things you can try in the mean time: I would suggest attempting a login on your Microsoft account, and checking the number of activations you have left though. We have found that some users don't have enough activations left because a OS upgrade counts as a 'new computer' in some cases.
Another update. Thanks to Andrew and Katie at Codeweavers support, a work around has been found. They really were very responsive and helpful in identifying the issue and creating a fix. I'm told there will be a patch in upcoming 16.2 roll out.
Debian Stretch 9.2, Crossover 16.2.5, Microsoft Office 2013 32 bit VLK. After installation of MSOffice, at Account -> Product Information I introduce the serial number. A message confirm that's OK. After restart, appear a wizard with activation with 2 options: activate over internet or by telephone. Over the internet, the same message "We couldn't contact the server ...", and by telephone it is impossible because "Telephone activation is no longer supported for your product".
I have an Office 2013 installer with a KMS key. It works on CrossOver 17.5.1 but not 18.0
Entering the licence key prompts me to seek internet verification of the key which fails, and then it wants me to call support to get a installation confirmation number.
I actually did this, and the Microsoft support staff told me the key was valid, but I needed help from the corporate team, so she forwarded me ... but the destination was out of office hours and end of call.
Hi all, mine is slightly different, I have installed MS Office 2013 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint Outlook) everything is working except I can not 'Sign in to Office' with my microsoft account and therefore the software can not be verified. When I attempt to sign in, I get to the first screen where i enter my email address and then it gets to the next screen where i should type in my password and it is a blank screen.
You should be able to download a copy of CrossOver 18.5 from this website. In the top right corner, hovering over "My Account" creates a drop-down menu. Click on "My Downloads" and you will be able to download the latest version of CrossOver there.
