Subject: Update on Membership Acceptance, Dues Concerns, and a Call for Collective Action

Dear Scholars,

We are delighted to learn that everyone who applied to join the Ronin Institute's affiliated entity in California has received acceptance notifications.

 Congratulations 

Some scholars have expressed reservations and may have decided not to join at this time

Membership dues have been soliticed while key structural and liability issues remain unclear Legitimate questions that remain unanswered include:

• Liabilities: What legal liabilities are members taking on by joining the California entity?

• Membership Criteria: Why do the criteria for membership appear so broad or loose? To maximise revenues?

• Internal Operations: What are the operational and financial activities happening behind the scenes?

As well as many unanswered questions posted repeatedlyt on this list

Just to clarify: ronin-institute.org  does not intend to compete or conflict for membership with the legal entity incorporated in California, but rather offer an alternative

A complementary, but independent, intellectual hub is open for contributions

the updated ronin-institute.org 

 a public platform for the vision of independent scholarship.

But it needs to be done 

I invite you to review the changes  *mistakes? anything you wish to see on the website?

and help develop this website further. You will find new content, including sections on our history, our definition of scholarship, and our commitment to DORA and COARA principles.

A Call for Volunteers and Leadership

I currently do not have the capacity to handle the necessary administrative and legal development work required to establish the full legal and organizational clarity we all seek.

Therefore, I strongly welcome and encourage any interested scholars to step forward and contribute to shaping the future of this collective. We need help to:

• Shape the Vision: Refine the core mission and strategic direction.

• Establish Legal Entities: Help research and form one or more stable legal entities associated with the Ronin name.

• Develop the Platform: Contribute to the website's structure and content.

• Finalize Identity: Help test and finalize the new logo and motto.

If you are interested in taking on a leadership role in resolving these foundational issues, please reply directly.

Share Your Work

Finally, to enrich the website and demonstrate the breadth of Ronin scholarship, please feel free to send relevant talks, publications, or scholarly output so that they can be linked to the appropriate web pages.

Dear Paola! Years ago, I listed the Ronin Institute as one of my locations at the bottom of my papers.

I usually write from the last rebirth as RIIS, just the following: Ronin Institute for Independent Scholarship...

But it may be interesting to add some location following this, a town and state could do the thing.

Could you inform members about this: How to refer to RIIS correctly in our papers?

For now, do you plan to create a repository where members can download their production in PDF format? That will be helpful both for preprints and printed papers. There can be two branches to hold the two types of work.

Nice meeting you

Some of us have been working towards developing an infrastructure for years

Now we must leverage the infrastructure that already exists

But our initiatives are consistently boycotted by snipers 

Ronin Institute was closed because people involved in unlawful activities did not want to be held accountable for their actions

but the new entity seems to have inherited some of the least desirable characteristics

Thinking 'distributed'

We need to make the repos happen, please start one or more repos for us and I ll link them to the site

I created one already

we can easily generate a profile web pages for each scholar until we have the data storage quote and even email boxes

but I do not have the resources to admin the website *behond generating structure and content  nor to pay for

other people email addresses

So what we need is

- one or more persons to act as admin

- one or more persons to generate and maintain repos

- one or more physical/material addresses *as per your suggestion

- possibly funding *anyone interested to contribute to a funding application please ping me offline, there are several programs we can

apply to. Gavin Taylor was my main correspondent at IGDORE until recently whom I hope can continue to advise us in this respect

But like everyone else, I am too busy to drive this alone

In terms of e-mails, maybe it makes sense to recruit Toso Pankovski into this initiative. He is a Independent Scholar from Canada, and he was making e-mails for people, so he may have some suggestions of the topic:

What a great idea, would you mind, reaching out to him and inviting him to join and contribute in whatever capacity we can?

I have shared an in principle  user agreement with Regina and others to ensure ethical use of the domain name

and we can have something similar regarding the use of the server space.

We can do an ice breaking zoom call anytime if needed

I was planning to send a post but have been ever so busy with deadlines

The new Ronin Institute  is here! www.ronin-institute.org  and it does need your energy and contribution

Let's talk at your convenience 

We do have an open meeting room and office hours almost everyday, just let anyone know when you want to jump in keeping in mind

time zone differences and that not everyone is or wants to be based in the US. Generally the meeting room at the moment

is open early morning for west coast, late morning for east coast *in the Us,   around lunchtime for participants in CET and

evening-ish for folks in Asia and Australia,   

But if members want to join at other times to discuss how to progress matters. this can easily be arranged

Note:  www.ronin-institute.org, as previously stated is not associated  with the legal entity registered in California under the same name  which has taken over bank account, domain name and control of social media assets controlled by the previous legal entity simply because of too many unanswered questions, such as:

*how did the new entity manage to take over digital assets of the previous legal entity but  declares not to be associated with it?

Remember that the previous legal entity was dissolved for no given reason other than  substantial amounts of unaccounted funding , but then liquidated financial assets through the bank accounts of employees that were not on the  payroll  and many other questions.....
