Now it is time to wrap it up. I have been working on Game of Thrones Enhanced and the subsequent Retro Mod for over four years now. It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud to see how far away the mod has gone. We have gone through different releases and I am glad you guys liked them, the mod has been consistently on the top 100 most popular mods here in moddb.

Moreover, the stats of various units have been reviewed further, mainly to enhance infantry, especially heavy infantry compared to missile units. These are small changes, the battles should still look the same as before.

And before we finish with the units, there are some changes on a few models, like Loras Tyrell getting a new armour, and also the Dornish got Obara Sand as a new hero, with her unique model. She becomes the 6th female general on the battlefield.

2. Let's go toward the scripts and events now. In version 2.0, we introduced the new victory conditions. The downside of it, was that the player could see them only at the start of the game.

Not anymore. A script has been introduced in order to display the victory conditions whenever you like. Go on the construction tab of any of your settlements and click: Ask advisor for the victory conditions of your faction.

It is useful for factions like House Martell, they have to kill Tywin Lannister and Gregor Clegane on their victory conditions. Or somebody else can kill them, it is the same, their vengeance will be fulfilled.

And most important of all, if you kill the Night King, the Others/White Walker faction will be destroyed. His generals will go rebel but with a normal rebel bodyguard and no army. In my experience, the Night King remains inside his starting settlement far north, on the Lands of Always Winter. You do not have to take all of his settlements, just go for him with a powerful army and you might get him, despite that settlement having a strong garrison script and the Night King himself has great stats.

4. Valar Morghulis is traditionally answered with Valar Dohaeris. This is a script available only to the Starks. If or better say when, the Others capture the three castles at the Wall, this script will kick in, with the Lord of Light sending his warriors: Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, to fight against the Lord of Darkness. Both generals have good attributes and command bonuses against White Walkers.

5. And we are back to the Brotherhood without Banners. Besides having their own units now, the script for Beric and Thoros coming back after being killed has been fixed now. Also, this version introduces more characters from the Brotherhood. All of them belong to the rebel/slave faction and will randomly attack settlements in the Riverlands, regardless of who holds them, with the exception of House Tully. Also in Essos, the rebels will attack House Targaryen. These are corsairs and pirates from the Basilisk Isles. Therefore, the rebels will be more active now, but in both cases, these attacks are more of a nuisance than a proper threat.

6. Besides the Brotherhood, the role of the Second Sons and the Golden Company has changed completely. Now they show up throughout scripts, only if the player decides to hire them. The Golden Company is available only to the noble houses in Westeros (besides Joffrey) later in the game if you own over 20k gold dragons in your treasury.

7. Besides these scripts, there have been small updates on other scripts, mainly the reinforcement ones and the Targaryen invasion of Westeros (for AI only ) has been further improved. The Others/White Walkers also got slightly stronger now. Also there are several smaller scripts available to specific factions, or other events who explain some sort of bonus that specific faction gets.

Last, I improved a little the geography of the map and fixed 4-5 bugs I found. In general, the gameplay should be better now. Inside the GoT folder, I included the files for the music mod, in case you own the first 3 albums of Game of Thrones. I hope you download it, play it and enjoy it. This will be the last update for the Retro Mod, but I might bring fixes in case they are warranted. Also if Peaman from Fire & Blood fixes a few issues we found about the custom settlements, I might release an update.

-Game of Thrones: Fire & Blood mod for many great strat and battle models, custom settlements, set of voices and more. The creator allowed me to use everything from his 2.5 version. Check out this mod by Peaman, it is great. The last release to date is 2.5.

Hey, i downloaded and installed the mod and everything seems to be working well so far but it seems that on the campaign map some banners havent installed properly because the Targaryens have the Sicilian banner, the Boltons have the Russian banner and the freys have some other banner with an orthodox cross. I tried replacing the banners folder with a fresh one from the mod dowload but the issue persists...
Any idea how to fix this?

I can't figure this out, I downloaded the mod placed it in the mods folder. Did a 4gb patch and made a kingdoms.exe file. But every single time it just says "Medieval 2 encountered an unspecified error and will now exit" If this can be fixed or if there's anything I'm missing it would be greatly appreciated.

The 4gb patch has to be used on both the medieval2.exe and especially the new kingdoms.exe - also be sure to spell the kingdoms.exe correctly - it might be spelled "Kingdoms" with a big letter for the "K".

On paper you did everything right! No idea why it isn't working for you. Thinking about it, the 4GB patch doesn't work on pirate versions of Medieval 2, from what I heard. No further ideas mate, sorry!

Medieval: Total War is a turn-based strategy and real-time tactics computer game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Activision. Set in the Middle Ages, it is the second game in the Total War series, following on from the 2000 title Shogun: Total War. Originally announced in August 2001, the game was released in North America on 21 August 2002 and in Europe on 30 August for Microsoft Windows.

Following a similar form of play to Shogun: Total War, the player builds a dynastic empire in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, spanning the period of 1087 to 1453. Gameplay is both strategic and tactical, with strategy played out in turn-based fashion on a province-by-province level, while military units of varying types and capabilities fight against each other in real time on a 3D battlefield.

Medieval: Total War received acclaim from reviewers; several critics commending it as a milestone in gaming. The real-time battles were praised for their realism and the new feature of siege battles but also received some criticism for unit management. The depth and complexity of the strategy portion was also received well by reviewers, together with well integrated historical accuracy. The game was a commercial success, topping the British video game chart upon release.

Medieval: Total War is based upon the building of an empire across medieval Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. It focuses on the warfare, religion and politics of the time to ultimately lead the player in conquest of the known world.[1] As with the preceding Total War game, Shogun: Total War, the game consists of two broad areas of gameplay: a turn-based campaign map that allows the user to move armies across provinces, control agents, diplomacy, religion, and other tasks needed to run their faction, and a real-time battlefield, where the player directs the land battles and sieges that occur.[2]

The strategic portion of the game divides the campaign map among twenty factions from the period, with a total of twelve being playable. The initial extent of each major faction's territory, and the factions available, depends on the starting period of the game, Early (1087), High (1205) or Late (1321), reflecting the historical state of these factions over time.[3] The factions themselves represent many of the major nations at the time, including the Byzantine Empire, France, England, the Holy Roman Empire and the Turks.[citation needed] Several factions, such as the Golden Horde, emerge during the course of play at their historical time.[4] These factions, together with several other factions appearing at the start of the campaign, are unavailable to the player in the main campaign. Each faction varies in territory, religion and units; however, factions of the same culture share many of their core units.

In addition to the main campaign, Medieval: Total War also features a game mode where the player can undertake various historical campaigns and battles. Historical campaigns allow the player to control a series of famous battles from a war of the medieval period, such as the Hundred Years War and the Crusades, playing as historic commanders like Richard the Lionheart. Individual historic battles have the player controlling a historical figure in an isolated battle that occurred in the era, such as controlling William Wallace through the Battle of Stirling Bridge.[5]

The main campaign of Medieval: Total War involves the player choosing one of the fourteen playable factions and eventually leading them in conquest on the strategy map. Each of the factions controls a number of historical provinces, which on the map contain a castle and, if located by the sea, a port as well. In the campaign, the player controls construction, unit recruitment and the movement of armies, fleets and agents in each of these provinces, using these means to acquire and defend the provinces.[6] Diplomacy and economics are two other aspects the player can use to advance their aims, as well as having access to more clandestine means such as espionage and assassination. Religion is very important in the game, with the player able to convert provinces to their own religions to cement the people's loyalty. Another campaign mode is available, called "Glorious Achievements", in which each faction has several historically-based goals to achieve, which score points; the faction with the most achievement points wins the game. The campaign mode is turn-based, with each turn representing one year, allowing the player to attend to all needs of the faction before allowing the artificial intelligence to carry out the other factions' moves and decisions.
