Blush is a 2021 animated science fiction short film inspired by a true story from writer and director Joe Mateo, produced by Heather Schmidt Feng Yanu and executive produced by John Lasseter, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg. Developed from Skydance Animation, the short film follows an astronaut falling in love with an alien on a small planet.[1][2] The film was dedicated to the memory of Mary Ann R. Mateo who died from breast cancer. It was released on Apple TV+ on October 1, 2021.

The short film opens up with an unnamed astronaut planting a garden in his spaceship but does not realize that a meteor is on its way to crashing into the spaceship. As a result, his spaceship loses control and crashes on a small deserted rock planet. He removes the plants from his garden and plants them on the planet, but in a matter of hours, the plants wither without air or water. He later witnesses another spaceship crash into the planet, which makes him believe there was someone on the ship. His plant suddenly grows into a large tree, and at the base of it he notices a pinkish female alien with ribbon hair[3] making the tree grow. The alien runs to his ship and removes the other plants from the spaceship to plant them into the planet, making most of it a large garden. While they fall in love at first sight, when the alien removes the astronaut's helmet, he nearly dies from asphyxia except that the alien makes air for him breathe.

Some months later, as the astronaut spends time with her, he teaches her a few things, like eating mangos. As the years go by, the couple develops their relationship and is seen having two daughters who have their parents' traits (the older girl with her mother's hair color but fine strands like her father, and a younger girl with her father's hair color but having her mother's ribbon hair).

The alien later is seen becoming weak, to the point where she can no longer eat and/or walk. As a result, the planet slowly withers and she eventually dies in the astronaut's arms in a sparkling aurora, at which time the astronaut starts to experience asphyxia again. However, he wakes to find his daughters are able to give him air like their mother, causing him to be able to breathe again, and also shares their mother's power to make the planet to also revive in an instant.

During the post-credits scenes, as he is sleeping with his daughters and a pet alien dog under a tree, the astronaut witnesses another (human) spaceship crash into the planet. Curious, he and his daughters go to check out the ship only to discover something that makes him blush.

The idea for the film came from story artist Joe Mateo who lost his wife Mary Ann four and a half years ago to breast cancer. Suffering from a panic attack, his daughters symbolized his air.[4] The film was announced later on as Skydance Animation's first production/project to debut with Apple Studios distributing it, making it the first Skydance film to be from Apple TV+.[5] On October 1, 2021, Skydance Animation released its first short film inspired by a true story from director Joe Mateo called Blush. It was released on Apple TV+ as part of their multi-year deal.

Following the purchase of Ilion Animation Studios from Skydance, animation was provided by Skydance Animation Madrid and was also made in Los Angeles. Production was done remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I'm planning a baby shower for my sister the weekend after Halloween, and even though she can't imbibe, the rest of us needn't suffer, right? A cocktail is a must if I'm going to survive drinking who-knows-what out of baby bottles or building diaper cakes. This cocktail seemed genius to me. It's a pretty color, and it's easy to make! There's even a sprig of rosemary to add some class.

The story behind this cocktail is that it appeared in the uber-creepy film Rosemary's Baby. When the Castevets, the old, weird couple upstairs, have Rosemary and her hubby Guy over for dinner, they're given a vodka blush to drink. Roman Castevet fills the glasses a bit too much and ends up spilling a little on the floor.

The drink is super tasty if you can stop thinking about the movie long enough to enjoy it! Do you have a favorite Halloween cocktail? I'll admit I'm usually too busy on Halloween night OD'ing on my kids' candy to waste time (or calories) on drinking. But after walking door to door for a few hours, I can be tempted!

Looking for more interesting cocktails to try? You need to keep a few fall cocktail recipes in your back pocket for cooler weather and any upcoming holidays. Mix up a tasty drink to keep warm on weekends, for impromptu get-togethers, and all those holiday functions that are just around the corner.

First Blush is, at surface level, a romantic movie. Though instead of portraying a relationship as we often see it, this one follows the story of an adequately happy married couple who decides to bring another person into their relationship. Now, most people would stop there and assume this is a movie about polyamory, and in a way, it is, but, diving deeper, its true message is about bravery.

I highly recommend checking out this indie treasure, as it will challenge you to question your individual happiness and fulfillment, not necessarily in the context of a relationship, but in relation to yourself. If you want more insight into how the cast and director feel about these characters, make sure to check out our upcoming Q&A interview with them!

One lucky bride had a neighborhood party for her bridal shower. It was in a lovely part of Brookings, South Dakota and the host family rented a tent, tables, chairs, and all movie themed ideas to go with it.

When I arrived to start taking some of the decorations down in the tent later that evening, I looked over and saw all the kids bundled up with blankets and pillows on the in-ground trampoline giggling at the movies! How fun would that be. I kinda wanted to join them.

To give you a glimpse of the night, here are some photos of the tent, decorated dinner and candy table. Enjoy! And let us know if we can help you plan your next bridal shower, baby shower, wedding or party.

Yes Jenny its time I watched that movie again too I feel. Such lovely & thoughtful gifts you have been sent from a special friend - even the packaging is just beautiful. Look forward to seeing whats inside as you open some more each day. x0x0

I still remember it, or I should say, a particular part of the film. With this exception, I could probably see the movie again as if for the first time. I looked up a few names for this post, because the only one I recalled is Robert Mitchum.

The film, set in Ireland 1916, is directed by David Lean; cinematography by Freddie Young. It tells the story of a married Irish woman who has an affair with a British soldier. A long story with a short plot.

I have this image now of you and your girlfriend hunched together, faces down and scurrying away from that X-rated movie; hoping not to be recognised. Did you get away with your unintentional X-rated adventure?

Hi there. This is where I have my say on pretty much anything along with some music and photographs. Categories of posts are generally Photography, News and Current affairs, Australian Politics, YouTube. If you wish, leave a comment; no charge.

Here are some of my most enduring crushes, the movies and TV shows in which they live (because for me, they live there, even when the character gets killed), and the books in which I imagined the actor inhabiting one of my characters.

Amazingly sensual actor. He had his breakthrough role was the Christian in the best known and best loved adaptations of one of my old time favorite love stories which became a trope in its own right, Cyrano de Bergerac (there will be a whole post about my love for this trope).

In the case of our astronaut, that comes in the form of another creature crash-landing on the planet at the end of the movie. Is it another mother figure? A friend? Regardless, the new arrival represents hope and light, which you find after going through something dark.

For Mateo, it's a deeply personal story. His wife, Mary Ann, passed away from breast cancer, and he relied on his children to see him through that painful time. Below, he opens up to Glamour about Blush, his connection to it, and who that mysterious new visitor is at the end of the film.

They were the first people who knew about the short. I had to pitch it to them, and during the making of it, we all were quarantined together. So they were very much a part of making it, because I would show them drawings and the progress. I remember them giving me notes. They're my in-house tech support. Those kids are amazing with technology.

It's really the symbolism of hope. For me, I found someone specifically I can share my future with. Mary Ann is always going to be a part of me. It's who I am. She made me a better person. I almost didn't want to say who that person is in the ship because I want people to personalize it for themselves. Who is in that ship for them? It can be a great future where they use that ship and go off and find other planets and other people they can be with. So yeah. I just left it open.

Just really, love. Appreciating people, my family, my loved ones who got me through it. As we went into production, it was amazing because I knew I was surrounded by people I love, with my kids. But as we moved on, as we grew, the circle of people surrounding me got bigger because of our crew who I learned to love. [The movie] made me better. It was very healing for me. It was very therapeutic. I'm a different person than when I started this short. I'm a better person now.
