I have just located the Rollins Cemetary in wake county. I believe
John and Frederick are both burried there. It is listed on the
geological survey maps owned by Progress Energy Who now has a nuclear
power plant and cooling reservoir located on some of the Rollins
property. The Progress Energy geological department state that there
is at least one grave in the cemetary that is marked identifying it as
a Rollins cemetary and it is clearly listed on there maps. I have not
been able to verify this yet as I am 2000 miles away from that area.
It is located just down the road from the old Rollins mill, which I
believe I read some place as being run by Burwell Rollins. But I will
have to backtrack to get that exact info. The remains of the mill will
soon be under water when they raise the level of the reservoir by 20
feet to help cool the new reactor they have just obtained permission
to build. So if you want to see it you need to do it in the next
couple years or it will be gone forever.

Fredericks son Henry G Rollins is in another cemetary (the
Rollins,Patrick Cemetary)located halfway between the Rollins Mill and
the town of Apex in the center of a horse farm oned by a man by the
name of Don Edwards. That cemetary is clearly marked and has 9
headstones.

So if any person would like to know the UTM coordinates of the old
Rollins Cemetary or the address of the Rollins Patrick cemetary shoot
me an email and I will send them to you. All I ask is if you go there
to please send me some pictures of them. It took me a couple days of
making a lot of phone calls and fighting (and threatoning) with
progress energy to get the location of the grave yard, and it is in no
danger of being under water when they raise the water level of the
reservoir as it is at 385ft above sea level, but I dont want to see
the knowledge of its location disapear again for another 90 years.

Ed, you are the man! Good to talk to you last night and THANK YOU for
this wonderful intelligence. I have spent years, off and on, hunting
fruitlessly for the old Rollins graveyard. Just last winter Laney and
I beat the bushes around the old mill and along both sides of Buckhorn
Creek. Several years ago I went door-to-door along Rollins Mill Road
inquiring about the graveyard without success. I will go hunting for
it soon when I'm back in North Carolina. If I find it, I'll
definitely send you pictures and also submit a canvass to the local
cemetery survey folks. You're absolutely right, let's find this
cemetery and not let it get lost again.

Thank you also for the power plant information, I was unaware that
Shearon Harris was expanding and planning to raise the lake level.
That will definitely flood the old Bethel Cemetery on Bartley Holleman
Road and possibly Collins Grove Baptist Church at Holleman's
Crossroads - I'll make it a priority to photograph those and other
cemeteries in the area around the lake this winter.

Thank you again. Let me know if you have an opportunity to visit the
area, we'd be delighted to show you around. Take care,

Steve

Hi Ed,

Nice to finally get something from you direct.  Burwell Rollins was my GGGrandfather and John was his father.  My Dad remembers seeing a cemetary in the area you describe near the mill when he was a little boy in the 1920's, but I've never been able to find it despite walking the ground many times.  If you have a topo, that might be the key.  The homestead was also supposed to be near the cemetery.  Would it be too much to ask you to send me the coordinates?  I have some old topos of the area which might help me pinpoint it.  Steve Weaver and I may go out there tomorrow and try to find it.  I just got a new digital camera, and if we find it, I'll take LOTS of pics.  Thanks so much for birddogging this!!
