Attached are photos of the old Rollins Mill. I went by today. It is
located on Cass Holt / Rollins Mill Road. Cass Holt Road is in Wake County
and Rollins Mill is in Harnett. They are the same road. Take HWY 751 South
and cross over US 1. Then you will pass the by visitor's entrance to the
Shearon Harris nuclear power plant you will come to a 4-way stop. Continue
straight on the Rex Road. Make a right when Rex Road intersects Cass Holt
Rd. Cass Holt Road will turn to gravel. The mill is off to the left as you
cross the bridge at the bottom and then start back uphill. Off to the right
is Harris Lake that will be dammed higher and will eventually flood Rollins
Mill.

I could not find the Rollins plot, but did find a plot for the Boothe family
on the left hand side of the road as it heads south and near the crest of
the hill. I did not have a GPS when I went in order to locate the exact
coordinates that Ed had discovered.

I found 1721 Old US Hwy 1, but Don Edwards was not home. I decided against
stomping around his farm without his or his dogs' permission. To locate it
follow 751 south until you get to New Hill. Turn left onto Old US 1. Go
about 3 miles or so (it is after a group of soccer fields) and his sign is
on the mailbox on the right side of the road. His drive way crosses over
the train track.

Hi Ed,
Nice to finally get something from you direct. Burwell Rollins was my
GGGrandfather and John was his father. My Dad remembers seeing a cemetary
in the area you describe near the mill when he was a little boy in the
1920's, but I've never been able to find it despite walking the ground many
times. If you have a topo, that might be the key. The homestead was also
supposed to be near the cemetery. Would it be too much to ask you to send
me the coordinates? I have some old topos of the area which might help me
pinpoint it. Steve Weaver and I may go out there tomorrow and try to find
it. I just got a new digital camera, and if we find it, I'll take LOTS of
pics. Thanks so much for birddogging this!!

Thank you so much for these pictures. How did we miss you?!? Laney
and I were down there today too! We did not go to the mill but did
find the Boothe graveyard. Laney will probably get his pics posted
before I do. It was not the graveyard we were hoping to find but it
does have a Rollins connection - the Mary D. Boothe buried there was a
daughter of Burwell Rollins (son of John). The others who are buried
there are her husband and four of their kids.

We had better luck at the Patrick-Rollins graveyard - we caught Mr.
Edwards at home and were able to transcribe and photograph the
cemetery. We saw nine headstones: Henry G. Rollins and Mary J.
Rollins, Mary J.'s parents William H. and Sarah Patrick, three of Mary
J.'s siblings (Cynthia, Louisa, and Mordecia Patrick), and two of
Henry G.'s kids previously unknown to me (both died young and did not
overlap a census year, neither have I yet seen a family Bible for
these people). We will get these pics posted soon also. I have a
couple of date discreprencies between what I recorded on the
headstones and have found in other records, hope to hash those out
this week as well.

Both graveyards are badly overgrown - Laney has the chiggers and I
have the briar scratches to prove it! Mr. Edwards and his wife were
both very kind and gracious in allowing us to visit. I will be back
in touch with them soon to thank them again.

I'm sorry we missed you, we'll have to all get together at Bullock's
for bbq sometime soon and compare notes. Thanks again for these
pictures!

Steve
