My researcher is 100% certain that Burwell and everyone
else (my Sloans and Marks) are buried in the forest up there
not far from the mill. So, I went exploring last Tuesday.

As you know, the jungle is not easy to walk in and you can't
go stright. 50 feet away from the road and you can't
see or hear the road. One wrong turn at this point and you
are lost.

It occured to me at that moment that hunters do this all
the time. They live up there, and if they get a little bit
lost, a few extra lost hours doesn't bother them.

I'll give them a reward for every grave they find.
I need 7 people up there, so if I give maybe 100$/grave
that I need, some one could cash in. It would be a win-
win. Does any one know the name of the hunting club
up there and how I can contact them?

Tom Shoemaker.

Tom,

I don't know if I have talked to you or if you have talked to Steve or
Ed about me. We still own 100 acres of original Rollins Land passed
from James to his son Ellis, less than a mile from where John made his
original purchase in 1787. I am off the James Rollins side of John's
ancestors. I have hunted the Chatham and Harnett lands previously owned
by the Rollins for more than 30 years. Yours is an excellent idea, one
which I have tried without the monetary reward. I know most of the clubs
in the area and have found several graveyards from this info, but not
ours. I know where the Marks graveyard is located and it is located less
than 1/4 of a mile from where the Sheron Harris Dam is now located on
the left side of Hwy 42 near where the RR(Norfolk and Southern) passes
under Hwy 42 near the Dam. It along with a slave graveyard are on the
top of a hill. Give me a call and I will review all my findings from
searching the Deeds and my scouting. I am sorry for not being able to
meet with you on your recent outing.

Tom,
This is a good idea, but I'm afraid that we could walk over one and not even know it.  The Booth and the Gaston Rollins cemetaries are the exception rather than the rule as far as marked headstones go.  Before, 1865 ( and even long after) people would just mark a grave with a field stone.  They knew who it was, but none of us would know.  I don't think I've seen a grave stone in our area with the death date prior to 1859, and I think even some of the earlier dated headstones may have been planted long after, such as the one at Agape and possibly Mary Barham Ragland's headstone (which I showed you).  Never hurts to try though.  I seem to remember Fred Burt telling me the hunting club in that area is called the Buckhorn Hunting Club. Van should know.
