All of our prepaid mobile plans include unlimited standard national calls to standard national numbers. This offer excludes calls and texts (inc. MMS) to international numbers, satellite and premium numbers (e.g., 19xx numbers), operator-assisted calls (most 12xx numbers), and all use overseas.
Prepaid plans offer the advantage of avoiding excess data charges. By paying for your data upfront, you won't face any surprise costs even if you run out of data. If you require additional data, you can easily purchase a new recharge, ensuring you have complete control over your data usage at all times.
250Mbps/150Mbps speed cap: Speed cap applies to 4G and 5G networks. Your capped download speed is the maximum potential download speed for data included in your recharge. Factors that affect typical speeds include location, distance from base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.

I know there are a ton of threads about cell phones on the ship and in port...I can't seem to find info about prepaid plans (other than tracfone). Yes, I've read tons of threads about this topic. I already realize that about 1/2 the people out there do not understand why anyone would ever want to/need to use a cell phone while on vacation. :)
The Boost Mobile website has FAQ's and one says "can I use my prepaid plan to make calls when I am outside the US" The answer is yes, but then they say "see our international rates" and send you to a link that shows rates FROM the US to other countries. I can't find the rates TO the US.
Thanks for the feedback! I went to the Boost website to copy/paste the FAQ showing that they did say calls from outside the US would work. However, the answer changed. I swear to you, it did not say this 2 days ago when I posted. 100% sure... I even showed several people to make sure I was reading the FAQ right. Then I emailed Boost Mobile to ask for clarification on the rates. Now the FAQ answer is changed. I like to think it's because of me :)
It's not a huge deal. Yes, I will survive w/o a phone. I only have a prepaid phone now for emergencies-- so it's not like I live on my phone by any means! I just wanted it for a few short calls from non-US ports.
A Data Boost is extra high-speed data the Account Owner or Account Manager can buy in My Verizon to help the account's lines avoid slower connection speeds.
How the Data Boost is used depends on your plan:
Get high-speed 5G / 4G hotspot data that your other devices can use. Your smartphone becomes a Wi-Fi connection for devices like tablets, laptops, and more.
During times of congestion, 5G / 4G LTE hotspot data may be temporarily slower than other traffic after 5 GB/mo of 5G Ultra Wideband, 5G, or 4G LTE data, you can still use hotspot at lower speeds of 3 Mbps when on 5G Ultra Wideband and 600 Kbps when on 5G / 4G LTE for the rest of the month. 5G access requires a 5G-capable device.

An Unlimited plan that includes unlimited Mobile Hotspot data: When a line on your account reaches your plan's monthly allotment of unlimited Mobile Hotspot data use, there are no overage fees, but that line connects at reduced speeds (up to 600 Kbps) until the end of the bill cycle. Based on the plan, a Data Boost gets your Mobile Hotspot back up to 4G LTE / 5G
To see your bill cycle dates, open My Verizon or the My Verizon app and choose Bill from the top menu.

There are two main types of ways to pay for phone service: postpaid, where you pay at the end of the month, and prepaid, where you buy service before you use your phone. The advertisements you see for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon are almost always for postpaid plans, while the plans and carriers we're talking about here are all prepaid plans.
You're buying the data and access to it in advance of using it. Prepaid plan providers let you purchase in various increments -- 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, six months or even a full year -- with prices often varying depending on how long you're willing to commit.
As I noted when covering the best unlimited plans, to get the most out of your deal you need to make sure you have the coverage you need. This makes it hard to give a blanket recommendation of any one carrier: T-Mobile's service in New York may be excellent, but if you're in rural Iowa, for example, Verizon is more reliable.
Prepaid providers almost always use someone else's service. Before you sign up for one, it's worth checking what the underlying network is. Each offers some version of 5G and I've broken this all down here, but to recap:
If you have any friends or family in your area who already use the prepaid carrier you're considering, ask about their experience. As mentioned above, you could also go to a major carrier's store and see if it offers free ways to try out the service before switching over, such as T-Mobile's Network Pass, Cricket's trial program or Verizon's trial program.
Taxes and fees are still included in the sticker price, but you'll now get 10GB of high-speed data and 5GB of hotspot data (unless you want to add it for $30 for the year). To add more high-speed data, international roaming or streaming perks, you'll need to step up to the carrier's pricier Unlimited Starter or Premium plans.
