Use your computer keyboard or click the piano keys to play the piano. The keyboard's top row of letters corresponds to the white keys, and the row of numbers corresponds to the black keys. You can play multiple notes simultaneously.
Click "Hide note names" above the piano to hide the note names. Click "Mark" to mark notes on the piano. Play the marked notes by clicking the "Play" button (only visible after notes have been marked) or pressing the spacebar on your keyboard.

If a music player (Banshee in my case) is running, the Play/Pause media key on the keyboard causes the music player to play/pause the music.If the music player is not running, the Play/Pause media key launches the player.

I have a multimedia player keyboard from Logitech. When you press on the keyboard, you can press buttons to for the second function. If I press it opens Winamp, which is cool, but the other buttons like "Play" etc. don't work, only in Windows Media Player.
If your keyboard isn't one of the programmable models, then you can also run a background application or script to control your music, volume, etc. Depending on what platform you're running and extent of your music control needs there are many options.
