Hey Gregg,

Overall I really like the new look! Kuddos! And the fact that you were
able to add in the background pictures...deffinately a great feature!

Found just a few things that might be bugs...

For some reason even if it is connected to the Wi-Fi, mine will keep
popping up the box that says that it can't find a device and that it
will use the default ip address located. I had to manually put in the
IP address, so was not sure if other users are experiencing this same
issue. It will continue popping up this window randomly as well even
in the middle of executing a command such as a search.

Also, I have not yet tried the search function in all of the channels,
but for some reason in the roku and amazon channels when I attempt to
perform a search, I will type my query into the box, but when I hit
enter and the letters start showing up on the screen several of them
do not appear, causing some invalid searches. It does this more when I
enter two words and will leave out the space more often than not,
though it doesn't always leave out the same letters.

Don't know too if this is just my version.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks!

thr33ts - thanks for the feedback!

With the new scan function, I'm finding that it doesn't work when the Roku is connected wirelessly.  So I'm re-writing the device selection and it won't make you click OK to continue.  It will show a brief message at the bottom saying it will use your previous settings.  And I don't think there's anything I can do to make the Roku respond to the scan if it's connected wirelessly - I think that's a problem with the Roku itself and how it works on the network.

I agree that the text entry is flakey.  I put a lot of delays when sending each character, but I find that the Roku box ignores them if they are received while it's querying for matching movies.  You can see how even with the physical remote it re-scans movie titles after each character is entered.  Have you tried the other text entry screen?  You can get to it by swiping the screen to the left.

BTW, has anyone tried the Roku Remote widget?

Gregg, I did try the Widget, but still have the same issues as before with the buttons being unresponsive on the G1. The Roku button is the only one that seems to work and it opens the app.

Thanks.

The widget seems to work fine for me on my Nexus One. All buttons seem
to work okay. One thing to note is that the forward and reverse
buttons on the widget work just fine when scrolling thru the movie
listing on the netflix home screen, unlike the buttons in the
application itself.

I realized that I didn't update the network code for the widget.  That explains why it may be flaky for you Trista and why it doesn't work the same for you kiyo21.  I am going to make those changes and release a new version - probably in a week when I get back from a business trip.

Thanks!

I'm using an Android tablet. M003 8" 800x600 screen. Wi/fi only.

Like most Tablet users I am in Landscape mode quite a bit. The app
will not rotate in landscape and the Widget only displays the top
quarter of the bottom row of buttons in Landscape.

My roku is on wireless but once I enter the IP The app works fine.

Good point about the tablets.  I'm working on making an alternate landscape layout, and it will be in the next beta release.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Gregg,

This is not neccessarily a bug, but I was wondering if you would be updating the app logo as well to match the new design.

Ah - yes, it should be updated.  I tried my hand at creating a new launcher icon, and it looks pretty bad.  Any chance you have time to create one?

Here is a picture that is posted on Engadget of the new remote:  http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/09-22-10remote.jpg

Not sure if it makes sense to show the new remote (or the top part of it), or come up with a totally different icon.  Any ideas?

BTW, the launcher icon for most phones is 48x48 pixels (medium resolution).  High res phones allow for 72x72 pixels.  More info here:
http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-CN/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design.html

The problem I have is that if I support multiple screen resolutions, I have to drop support for Android 1.5.  What I may do is put out a new version with all the new features that works with 1.5, then move the app to support only 1.6 or higher and multi-resolution screens. 1.5 users won't be able to get updates at that point, but at least they will be more current than where they are now.

Here are the sizes you requested, unfortunately I am unable to test them on my phone properly prior to sending them...I also am attaching one more idea, using just the big button in the middle...let me know if you think I need to make other adjustments.

Thanks

Not a problem. Also, I didn't know if the shadow was supposed to be part of the image or if that was an effect you created when setting it up as the icon, so if I need to take off the shadows let me know.

Hope the rest of your trip is enjoyable!

Thanks

Gregg,

I did find something else that could possibly be concidered a potential bug, our roku got unpluged, and when it came back on the network, it had a different ip address. Since I already had manually input a previous ip address, it did not recognize it as a new device, and I was not able to change it on the preferences panel, instead, I had to re-enter a new ip address under add a new device.

I guess I should add the option to edit the job address in the preferences.
