to Roku Remote for Android
Hi Gregg
I don't know if this is possible....I often listen to internet radio
through the Roku, but I don't like having to turn on my TV to go to
one of the music apps (like Soma or Pandora) and choose a channel.
The audio from my Roku runs directly into my receiver, so the TV does
nothing other than choose the station for me, then I can turn it off.
Is is possible to display on my android device the channel selection?
Or a way to jump directly to a "favorite" channel? I think this would
a GREAT feature if there's a way it could work.
Thanks!
Wayne

Hi Wayne.  Actually, adding a channel selector is one of the next things I'm going to add to the app.  But would that help you without a display? You would still need to navigate once you got to the channel, right?

Thanks for the lightning quick reply.  And you're right, most of the time.  Some channels, like Radio Paradise, have only one feed - so you click on it and it's there.  But with most of the audio channels you do have to make a selection to get to the individual station.  I don't know how the Roku works, is the video feed it's only display?  Or is that info also available over wifi?  If so, that sounds like the best route.  But if that can't work, perhaps another idea is to Favorite an individual station within a channel on the Android device, so it would be possible to jump directly to it. If that's not possible, next down the line might be a macro that runs through the steps.  Record with the TV on, and it should work as long as new channels and stations aren't added. Of course, this all depends on how the architecture of the Roku is set up.

The Roku interface has a lot of limitations, and I really can't tell what is actually being displayed.  For example, I can't detect what title the cursor is on.

So the only option is for me to add the ability to go to a channel and run some macro.  I hadn't thought of macros, but I think it makes sense.  Ill defintly consider it.

Thanks Gregg.  I hope you'll be able to come up with something.

Hi Wayne.  Just wanted you to know I just pushed out a new version of the Roku Remote app to do direct channel selection using the new "Go To Channel" menu.  I don't yet have a way to add other commands once you get there, but it's a start.

Let me know what you think.
