Hey,

I just recently bought this application because I thought it was a
cool idea and I figured I would support it rather than download the
free one.

Anyways it was working when I first opened it up and manually entered
the IP address. Then I decided to update my roku software to the
latest version and that broke the remote. Not sure what to do.. the IP
address is the same exact thing it was before hand.

I'm using a Roku XD|S (the wireless one).

Thanks!

Have you tried adding a new device? You can find this option by opening the app, hitting the menu button, and then selecting add device.

When I downloaded the update on my ROKU I had the same issue, and this worked great for me.

Thanks for your suggestion Tristan - that might work.

I would also suggest unplugging your Roku box for a few seconds and then plug it in again.

Restarting the device seemed to fix the remote but after I started to
change the skin of the app it stopped working again. IE: I changed the
skin from Red to green back to red.

I can't duplicate this, works well for me.
I did not see if running app off sd card acts like this though,
perhaps you installed to sd card ?

I'm not sure if I installed it to my SD card.

Also, I'm using a Droid X phone with the newest OS (froyo)

if you are running stock froyo and are not rooted it should install to
system UNLESS you have installed any Apps2SD applications.
if you have not done any of those then I am out of ideas.
I am running on rooted and custom rom droid original, the app works
fine for me on internal and external. I was able to check today.

there really are 2 things that could do this.

one is the roku itself dropping wifi, run it wired to rule it out.
some had wifi issues especially if hooked to an N router.
I expect its a roku issue and hard wire will prove it.

if not then its an X issue.
when this happens can you still browse internet or do anything else
over wifi?
also should make sure the hotspot function is turned off too as that
will mess wit it.

No I haven't touched the phone regarding rooting or anything like that. I made sure the phone is connected via wifi, I can't connect it directly since its too far away. I do still have internet when it does not connect so that rules out that. I'm not sure if the hotspot function is on or not; how can I check this?

if you still have internet on the phone through wifi (not 3g) then
hotspot isn't an issue.

I would bet this is a roku wifi issue.

are you using a G or N setup for wifi on the roku?
the ONLY way to rule out the roku box is to hook it wired and rerun
network connection setup. that is only way to rule it out, can spend
hours messing with everything but until its hooked wired its all moot.
if it works fine with the roku wired you know where to look, roku wifi
connection itslef.

I'm currently using a G linksys router. I'll try to hook it up directly to the router tonight to see what the issue is.

Here is a simple connectivity test you can try

  1. Turn on wifi
  2. Open the browser on your phone
  3. Type in this URL, but substituting the IP address of your Roku box instead of mine:  http://192.168.0.110:8060
You should get a lot of cryptic text back, starting with "> 1 0 DMP-1.00 urn" etc.  You can also try refreshing it a bunch of times.  That should show if you have connectivity to the Roku from the phone.

Okay so I typed that IP in and I did get the text you told me I would get but the remote still isnt working with the device. Or it will work but its just REALLY delayed, ie: 5 minutes after I've hit a bunch of buttons it reflects those actions on the screen.

That is really strange.  Not sure what could cause a problem like that.   Sounds like a network issue of some kind.  The only thing I can think of is to unplug the Roku and plug it in again so it resets.  Other than that I'm out of ideas.

did you ever try wired and not wifi?

I would but I don't have a monitor to configure the player on. Is there any way I could find the IP of the device without looking at the screen? Like I can plug it in to the router and power it on but I dont have a TV where my router is so I can't configure it.

The only problem with attaching your roku device wired vs wireless is that it will in effect issue it a new ip address. However, depending on what type of router or software you have you should be able to look up all of the ip addresses on your network. Some routers will even show you which ip's are wireless, or what kind of device is using that ip.

Alternatively, if you don't know how to find your ip address using your router, there are apps that you can download that will scan your network and show you all of the ip addresses. (If you turn off all of the devices that are connected to your device except for your roku and phone then only three ip's will show up, the router address itself, your phone and your roku) You should be able to distinguish from the router ip, but otherwise just try all three and you should be able to get it to work.

However, if it is functioning, though delayed, it does sound like you need to reset your roku device as it could be a glitch in the roku software. Then, if it still does not work you can try the above method.

Hope this helps :)

This truly just feels hopeless. I put the url into my browser and the text shows up, etc. I try to use the remote and it wont work. I use the regular remote and go and check to see I have the correct IP address and then all of a sudden a bunch of commands I guess hit the roku making it go to the home screen, left, right, OK, etc. I guess I'm stuck just not using this app.

Greg,

My app updated today, and for some reason it is not working either. I have tried all of the methods mentioned above. It does scan for the device and locates it, but then nothing happens...it was working fine for me yesterday. I still have the G1 running Donut.

Thanks
Trista

Roku has been pushing out a lot of updates recently.  I just tested on mine with the 2.9 1534 build and it works fine.

If you aren't running that build,  go to settings and check for updates.   Also you may need to power off the Roku and power on again.
