Thebest Zelda Breath of the Wild mods for PC will twist the game into something unrecognisable, though obviously it can only be done via emulation - something that Nintendo officially doesn't approve of. There's no mods for the Switch version of BOTW, as it's not compatible with such things, but for those are running the game on their PC, here are some of the best mods for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild that stood out for us.

Link and Geralt of Rivia both love exploring dark dungeons, slaying monolithic beasts and saving the day from tyrannical villains. It was only a matter of time that the modding community gave the Butcher of Bokoblin a more fitting look. Link may not be much of a talker nor does he spend his days playing Gwent, but he does look rather dashing in his new Witcher gear. This texture mod doesn't change Link's model but it does replace his hair and eye colour, while also donning him in a custom armour retexture made to look like Geralt's starter mail in The Witcher 3. Who knew anime Geralt could look this good?

l would be gratefull if some amazing modder would be willing/able to either make a stand alone armor set based on zelda botws gerudo outfit (both the one link wears and the ones the gerudo vai wear) with both flats (like links) and heels (like most gerudo) for foot wear or retexture the female Alik'r set to look like the gerudo set (with both heels and no heels options)

Note that any mods which edit any of the same files as each other will probably be incompatible and cause issues. Sometimes, mods that edit different files can also be unexpectedly incompatible. If you are using multiple mods and you find glitches, please figure out which mod / combination of mods is causing the issue before reporting it to the mod creator(s).

SDCafiine is a Wii U homebrew program that will load modded game files from your SD card. The classic version has a history of serious stability problems, as the program eventually unloads from memory, and game files begin to revert to their un-modded state. An alternative version designed for the Wii U Plugin System (WUPS) is much more stable and does not usually unload, so it is recommended.

Mods that are packaged as a graphic pack or as a BNP can be installed using BCML, a mod loading tool. In addition to being simpler than manually extracting and enabling the mod, BCML is designed to resolve certain kinds of conflicts between different mods. Mods that modify many types of content, including the Resource system, the same SARC files, or Message archives, among many others, will not function properly together unless the changes are merged. BCML does this automatically. To install mods with BCML:

BCML should automatically enable installed mods in Cemu, but check to make sure by opening the Cemu graphic pack menu and making sure the "BCML" graphic pack under The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Mods/BCML is enabled.

version must be set to 3 to work correctly. fsPriority determines the order in which mods are prioritized - higher numbers prioritize that mod's files over other mods. Mods without an fsPriority entry specified will default to 100.

Once a mod has been added, simply enable it from Cemu's graphic pack menu to use it. You can find this menu in Options > Graphic Packs or by right-clicking a game and selecting Edit Graphic Packs.Note that most mods should not be enabled or disabled while the game is running.

Running homebrew on your console may lead to it getting banned from Nintendo's online services (including eShop and game updates). Enabling Airplane Mode will not help, as telemetry reports are saved and sent to Nintendo the next time you connect to the internet.

However, this risk is very minimal as long as you are sensible and only use a safe, sane CFW (Atmosphre) and mods on offline games (don't install NSPs or pirate games!) as Atmosphre does not leave any trace on the system and disables some system telemetry.

The Switch version of Breath of the Wild sends many telemetry reports so when you are using mods that modify gameplay in a detectable way or add new content in any way, it is strongly recommended to disable telemetry reports because they are used by Zelda developers to understand how people play BotW and also to help them fix bugs.

Ok, so I beat Breath of the Wild. I've seen epic mods for the game, but I want to know how you can get mods for the game. If it matters, I play on the Nintendo Switch and I have both DLC. I did a google search and I got no answer. I also want to know if there is any way to search for mods to get them. I've watched a lot of Breath of the Wild mod videos and I really want to know how I could get some of the mods used in them for myself.

You will have to install homebrew on your Switch. (Against Nintendo's Terms of Service)I myself would rather not go into detail about hacking a Switch but if you look, you can find guides on the topic. I'm not saying I recommend modding your Switch, but it is an option.

BotW mods are generally intended for Cemu emulation of the Wii U version. Some mods can be installed on official hardware through homebrew, but this is tricky and against ToS, as was already said, and I wouldn't recommend it. Modding may not even be possible on your Switch due to it relying on hardware exploits that have been fixed on newly produced units since their discovery.

Due to the nature of the Wii U being region locked, the various versions of the game are released with Title IDs corresponding to the region they are released in; they follow the format shown below[1].

There are three primary methods of installing mods; through the use of FTPiiU, Loadiine, or SDCafiine. It is recommend that mods are installed through either FTPiiU or Loadiine due to Breath of the Wild's RAM usage which will then unload SDCafiine (and with it, installed mods) after a Blood Moon.

FTPiiU is a project that exposes the SD Card inserted into the Wii U console as an FTP server than can be connected to through a computer. This allows people to send things to their SD Card without ejecting it from the console and inserting it into their PC[2].

Modding this game currently only works with FTPiiU Everywhere, which can edit the Wii U's internal storage; not the same as the original tool which only provides access to a users SD card. It also requires custom firmware to be installed on the device for the tool to work, we recommend CBHC (Cold Boot Haxchi). See this guide for CBHC: [ Click Here ]

Loadiine is another Wii U Homebrew App. It loads game backups from your SD Card after you make a backup of your Digital Install or your Game Disc. Since the folder structure is raw after you make a backup using the recommended tool on the Loadiine page, you can then add your mods to the game's update files (after downloading them) by hand.

After you download the Update Data onto your PC with JNUSTool (backup this data somewhere safe!), go to the "Game Update Folder" section on the Loadiine GX2 link you visited just earlier. You can setup separate mod packs with different names to keep your sets of mods separate from eachother, and to be able to choose easily. Each ModPack will have to include a full copy of Update Data, with the mods merged into it, replacing any necessary files.

Again, the code/content/meta folders of the Update Data must retain all Update Data related content, and your wanted mods will need to replace those specific files in the Update Data folders. If the actual Update Data is missing I would assume the game would fail to boot.

SDCafiine is a Homebrew Application for the Nintendo Wii U, that can be loaded with the Homebrew launcher. The main feature of this application is the on-the-fly replacing of files, which can be used used to loaded modified content from external media (SD/USB)[3]. Custom firmware is not required for this method, however, Homebrew is required.

This is where your Mods will go; often enough, most mods released will come pre-packed with the correct folder structure and will allow you to drag and drop into the SD Card without further configuration.

Note: Some mods may not be in the correct folder structure required to drag and drop to the SD Card for SDCafiine, make sure to place the files correctly in order for them to load into the game. The correct file structure can be found here.

SDCafiine allows users to create modpacks and select which one they want to use before playing the game. To do this simply create a folder inbetween the GameID folder and the Content folder in the format shown below. When loading the game you will select the pack you wish to use.

No mods load at all?

Verify you installed or updated SDCafiine to 1.4 and that you're not using their nightly releases. Where are the stable releases?--Scroll down on their Releases page. Again, make sure your game is on the latest update.

Some mods load and others will not?

In your 00050000101C9#00 folder, verify the structure. Any extra folder beside "content" will specify as a modpack. If you have a modpack in this directory, it will ignore all of the mods that you have placed in the content folder.

This is a limitation with SDCafiine and Breath of the Wild being used together. The game requires so much RAM that it pushes SDCafiine out of the memory, breaking mods. At this time, the only way to circumvent this is to either use FTPiiU and edit the Update Data of your Breath of the Wild, or to use Loadiine with an edited SD copy of the game.

As Breath of the Wild: Second Wind is a work in progress project there is no guarantee that the compatibility status of other mods will remain consistent throughout its development. The list on this page contains compatibility information with BCML compatible mods (BNP and Graphics Packs).
