You must pay for extra for everything on Jetstar and entertainment is no exception. Each seat has a nine-inch screen and it costs $10 to watch, play or listen if you pre-pay during the booking process. If you wait until you're on the flight, it will cost you $13 for an all-access pass or $9 for an individual movie, or $6 to listen to an album or play a game. There are about 100 movies to choose from including a handful of new releases such as Dune, Spencer and The French Dispatch. Television is a bit light-on, with about 10 comedies, dramas and lifestyle shows. There's also plenty of music, a kid's section and games - but make sure you bring an adaptor if you wish to use your own headphones or you'll be stuck with Jetstar's basic earphones. There's also in seat power via a USB.

The low cost carrier will later increase the number of iPads it has available when it launches the in-flight entertainment system, developed by Bluebox Avionics of the UK, across Jetstar's Asia network.

The flight was on a new 787, which I have flown a few times now but the size of the windows still delight me. I was also surprised to see that there are inflight entertainment units. The last time I flew Jetstar to Melbourne they had tablets to rent.

hi, i was wondering about the jetstar in flight entertainment. It says that you have to pay for it but what happens if you don't, do the tvs do anything if you pay and what do they do if you don't pay?

If you fly in the new 787's (which the OP has already stated flying to Bali is the case) then in Economy, you can pre-buy the access to the seat back entertainment unit. The purchase is linked to your seat number, and is pretty much activated from leaving the gate.

Does anyone know if you can play your own content from USB stick on the seat back screen on the 787 for free or do you need to pay for inflight entertainment to get this feature. Also, what type of headphone jacks do they use on the 787?

On my last flight the seat I booked was changed by one row and without asking they gave me free access to the entertainment system as compensation. For the Bangkok flight I thought the range of movies offered was good. The number available was certainly more than in the link posted earlier (using the seat back screen, not ipad).

International Boeing 787 flights do have paid entertainment add-ons available, though this is largely irrelevant at this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Entertainment is not available for purchase on domestic Boeing 787 flights.

Both flights say they have inflight entertainment but I've also read on reviews of Batik Air that lots of the planes have had the TVs removed and blocked off with plastic boards or that it doesn't work because you need an app to link it to.

I feel like it's difficult for me to weigh up because a whole extra hour seems like so much but I think I would prefer that if I was on a bigger plane with less turbulence and in flight entertainment.

If you're an anxious flyer then definitely choose the wide body option. Maybe even splurge and grab an exit row. I've learnt never to rely on any airlines entertainment system or options and I bring my own tablet & noise cancelling headphones with pre-downloaded content from both Netflix and Amazon.

Just got notified that The Sydney route now uses the new, smaller neoA321, so not sure if that is going to happen to the ones from Melb as well. Not happy with the change, loved the Dreamliners, but the new planes are a downgrade in comfort and also no entertainment on the back of the seats. I had read that they supplied it via streaming to your own device, but I checked with them and this doesn't seem to be the case....just NO entertainment provided at all now. Full stop. You have to load your own content to your device before you fly. Their only concession is a cradle so you can sit your device on the back of the seat in front

However, the airline later clarified that it doesn't encourage such acts. "While we enjoyed the impromptu in-flight entertainment, and this customer channelling their inner Edith Piaf, the PA system should only be used by crew, so this does need to be a one off," a Jetstar spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia.

In another first, Jetstar has installed a digital streaming service, with content selected to match the flight length the aircraft is operating. To connect, it's as simple as putting the device into flight mode, selecting the Jetstar entertainment app, scanning a QR code and browsing for something that suits your taste. There is no need to download anything before the flight, and with content changed every two months, the choices will include new releases not yet available to all streaming services. As a leisure carrier, Jetstar has added more 'child-friendly' programs, such as from Disney, and it also integrates popular games into the onboard system.

Having travelled on the way to Auckland on a Jetstar flight without any in-flight entertainment I can tell you that any sort of entertainment is worth a small bit of cash, but the iPad makes it even more worthwhile.

Jetstar's Business Class service includes two carry-on bags, in-flight meals and refreshments. Your amenity pack including socks, eye masks, toothbrushes and pens will also help to make your flight as stress-free as possible. Not forgetting the access to up to 64 hours of world-class entertainment. This service is currently inclusive of all meals and beverages, in-flight entertainment and includes an increased baggage allowance of 30kg.

Help pass the time with JetStar's excellent in-flight entertainment service. Find movies, TV shows, games and an eclectic music library on international routes on board the airline's 787 Dreamliners. For Economy Class passengers, inflight entertainment can be pre-purchased by clicking on the "Manage Booking" tab on the JetStar website. Business Class passengers are given complimentary inflight entertainment as well as noise cancelling headphones.

Jetstar offers Business Class on its B787-8 aircraft. The Business Class cabin is fitted with 21 leather premium class seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, similar to Qantas domestic Business Class or Qantas international premium economy class. The service is inclusive of all meals and beverages, in-flight entertainment, and includes an increased baggage allowance of 30 kg. Business Max fares also include Qantas Club lounge access where available, and earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

The airline has an inflight magazine. In November 2011 Jetstar became the first airline to offer passengers iPads for use as in-flight entertainment devices. The units, which are pre-loaded with movies, games and magazines, are provided on flights over two hours duration and are available for a fee in Economy Class but are complimentary in the international Business Class cabin, although some aircraft have seat back entertainment screens. The options available are changed on a bi-monthly basis depending on customer feedback forms which are collected by head office through a random selection process.

Can an airline deliver a modern and consistent inflight entertainment offering across its fleet without an expensive retrofit program? Jetstar Group is about to find out, in partnership with Bluebox Aviation Systems. The program will see the new Blueview digital passenger experience platform deployed across the Jetstar and Jetstar Asia Airbus fleet to begin, with potential to expand to other aircraft types.
