Video not playing

I downloaded a video off of youtube in an mp4 format, the video is just about 3 minutes long. The problem that i am having is that the video is refusing to play and i instead get a black screen in its place, any help is much appreciated, thanks.

All videos that Windows Media Play can play can be set as a screensaver. Maybe you need a codec or try to convert the video to another format. AVI (no compression like XVid) and MP4 should work OK. To play formats like FLV you’ll need a codec.

Ok, I downloaded a video (about 10 minutes)  in an mp4 format, rodflashplayer was not playing it. Then I converted it to avi. Now the preview is like intended (video and audio), but when the countdown for the screensaver ended, only the audio is perceptible.

Similar I experienced with another video some time ago. After the conversion to avi at first all was wonderful, all working without problems. But after some days only the audio worked  (though the preview is still working fine). I gave up then, using other screensavers, but now I want to know what´s the matter!

Do you have any idea? If so please tell me! Thanks!
