Carl from Cowlaious Designs has recently moved into the area and he would like to lead a talking skull build using the Scary Terry kits he sells. He is offering a $30 discount on either of these kits to those who come:
The 450 kit's board has a built in audio player, so you can put audio right into the skull.
IMPORTANT: To get the discount, you must create an account on the Cowlacious web page at https://www.cowlacious.com/login.php?action=create_account then send Carl a message and he will apply a $30 credit to your account to purchase one of the kits. He'll bring the kits to the mini. Should take about 2 hours or so to do the build.
This will be at Karen's place (same as the Gathering). We'll all pitch in and get pizza for lunch.

Can you still sign up for this?  I don't remember hearing about the gathering.

Yes.  We just scheduled it yesterday.

Does the 425 kit require an mp3 player or what exactly is the difference between the 2 kits?

Yes, the ST-425 board requires audio from some outside source. The ST-450, in addition to the MP3 player, has a relay that turns on whenever the MP3 unit is playing a track, and it can triggered with an optional switch or motion sensor allowing it to play one track each time it is triggered. It can do everything the ST-425 can do, plus those additional features.
That being said, I still sell quite a few of the ST-425 boards. If you have a prop that you want playing tracks in a continuous loop, then that is pretty easy to do with a lot of different audio sources (mp3 player, phone, laptop, tablet, etc). Some people also have other audio sources that have their own trigger.
So, it depends on how you plan to use it and if you need the built in audio or not.

Hope that helps,

Carl Cowley

That is basically it.  The 450 has a built in audio player.  The 425 will require external audio.

I plan on ordering a kit and being at the mini on Aug 10. What tools will we need?

Ditto to what Greg said, and same question.

What do we need to mount the skull? Do we need a Mini II to build a mount that has additional movement for the skull?

From Carl....

Tools that would be helpful:  A cordless drill and a Dremel type drill (with a collet for both a 1/8" and 1/16" bit), needle nose pliers, a 1/8" standard drill bit, a 1/8" cutting drill bit (Dremel 561 Multipurpose Cutting Bit, 1/8", Metallic, Medium) or a Rotozip bit, any bit from a 15/64 and a 17/64 size for a regular drill. You could also bring a heavy duty pair of wire cutters, not the kind used for electronics, that can cut through .041" music wire (I use a wire shear - Xuron 2193, available through Amazon). Out of those items the ones that would help the most would be the Dremel with a 1/8" collet and the cutting bit. The large drill bit is only used for one hole as is the 1/16" bit. The needle nose pliers would also be very helpful. I will have a full set of tools that can be used by others as needed.
