Can I enable BlobDB on an existing column?

Hi, I've a couple of questions about using BlobDB on an existing database.

Is it possible to simply enable BlobDB on an existing column family with data, by simply setting enable_blob_files=true? WIll it have any effect or just be ignored?

Another question, does BlobDB support the backup / restore APIs?
