Hi there
I'm testing on VMs here.
When installing a node I have this error:

"The following error occurred while installing.  This is a fatal error and installation will be aborted.

Error populating transaction after 10 retries: failure: RedHat/RPMS/rocks-boot-7.0-0.x86_64.rpm from anaconda: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try."

And then I can only exit the installer

I think perhaps it is a timeout expiring because it's the biggest file in the repo: 533MB
If I try to download it manually, from the installer console, there is no problem with the file
Strange, because it didn't take that long (44MB/s)
/mnt/sysimage still have 15G free

Looking some more I see that /run is a tmpfs of 1001M and has no more space for a big rpm of 533MB

Is this a compute node or a frontend?
How much memory (RAM) is allocated to your VM?

There are ways around the problem, however, the VM will need more than 1GB RAM
(2GB is a good number, but that still needs a modification to how the node is installed)

sorry, I responded directly to Philip and not to the list, so I copy here my response:

It's a node, I tried with 2GB RAM fro the VM node when I had that error.
Now I'm trying with 4GB RAM and the installation went just fine
Thanks!

Just to follow up for this --

The need for extra memory is because the avalanche part of Rocks (where installing nodes are willing to re-serve RPMs that they have downloaded) now uses RAM to store the downloaded RPMs instead of disk.   This means that a node must have enough
memory to hold the installer AND the RPMs that is installs.

That's not always convenient and there is at least one way around it.

# rocks set host bootaction <name of node> action="install notracker"
# rocks set host attr <name of node> UseTracker False
# rocks set host boot action=install

And then go.  This will work for machines that have at least 2GB memory (I haven't tested the lower limit, it's probably around
1.2GB).

There is another way, that is untested, to place the downloaded RPMS on a disk partition instead of memory.
