Hi,

I need to rename some of the compute nodes.
What is the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Vlad

To change a compute node's primary hostname you'll need to remove and
re-install the host.

For example to rename compute-4-3 to compute-5-16

# rocks remove host compute-4-3
# insert-ethers --rack=5 --rank=16

Thanks Manson,

I removed the compute nodes, but when I ran
insert-ethers --rack=0 --rank=13 for example,
I got the insert-ethers menu. I selected Compute,
but then nothing happens...

You will need to reboot the node with PXE to have the headnode gets its
mac address and add it back in.

Hi Naveed and Manson,

I changed the compute nodes names, but I see that Ganglia doesn't
follow up. It still shows the old names some of the nodes as down.

try restarting ganglia on the frontend:

# service gmetad stop
# service gmond stop
# service gmond start
# service gmetad start
