In one of our Rocks 5.4.2 clusters, the front end
installation was successful and so was one of the
compute nodes.

While adding the other two compute nodes, I keep
getting the following error:

******************************************************
Error Partitioning

Partitioning failed: Could not allocate partitions
as primary partitions. Not enough space left to
create partition for /boot.

Pres 'OK' to reboot your system
******************************************************

1. I have tried using brand new hard drives and
the same error persists

2. I have got those brand new hard drives wiped clean
and error message shows up every time

3. I have tried editing replace-partition.xml and
rebuilding the distribution as indicated in

http://www.rocksclusters.org/roll-documentation/base/5.4/customization-partitioning.html

but the error is still there

4. Since the nodes aren't even installed, I can't
do the 'nukeit.sh' approach

Any help to clear out this error message and get the
compute nodes installed will be greatly appreciated.

Best,
g

I think I have found the cause for this error. I put

echo "rocks manual" > /tmp/user_partition_info

in replace-partition.xml and rebuilt the distribution.

When compute-0-1 booted up and brought up the disk
partitioning screen, there was no hard drive listed.
This didn't change even when I swapped the connectors,
etc. compute-0-2 also showed the exact same behavior.

So, in summary, this seems to be a case of failing / bad
hardware.

Apologies for not doing being thorough in my search
before seeking help.

Best,
g
