I was finally able to reset the APC power distribution unit (Model :
APC AP7911) and started insert-ethers after resetting the PDU.
I am able to see the PDU making a dhcp request and on the screen I see
the correct mac address and opening another terminal I see that an ip
address is assigned to the PDU.
However, pressing F8 to quit after the discovery does not work. It
says "Not kickstarted, Please wait". I cannot ping the PDU now.
I picked "Power distribution unit" when using insert-ethers. Any
suggestions? Thanks.
Karthik.

As to why you can't ping it, I don't know.
The insert-ethers messages are ok. Have you set up (configured) the APC PDU to receive the new ip address? The APC documentation has the procedures.

Just hit F9. Rocks is mistakenly trying to kickstart the PDU.

I was able to log into the PDU with an older address and using the
web interface, changed the old config (which used a static ip) to a
DHCP. I then attached the PDU to the same managed switch as the master
node and started insert ethers and as I said, insert-ethers identifies
the PDU and, if the entry in the /etc/hosts, is correct assigned an ip
address to it. Then I hit F9 to get out. Is there anyother setup I
need to do with the PDU? I read though the user manual of the PDU. Now
I cannot login to the PDU using the old settings - so I am assuming
that the new address was assigned to it. I tried new address and still
no luck.

Does '/opt/rocks/bin/rocks list host interface' report the expected
ip/mac? Can a ping on the aforementioned reported ip or arp -s ip/mac
respond? The doc's seem to omit the reset switch. I pressed the reset
switch and verified the led's flashed, then tried access.
