I searched for this and I wasn't able to find a discussion or documentation
about it.
- *Introduction:*
1. I'm a student and my Prof. gave me this project. At the end of this
(Spr 2012) semester, he want's to see a running Google Earth. In addtition
to Google Earth, not that he requires it but I want to show him a
benchmark of this mini cluster. I want to show him more, any suggestions?
But first thing first, I should have a running OptiPortal first.
- *Set Up*:
1. 1 Front End with 1 monitor
2. 3 Computer nodes with 2 monitors each.
- *Specs:*
1. Intel Xeon
2. Nvidia GTX 580
3. **Front End and Compute Nodes have similar Specs except that the
Front end is using a single monitor with a lower resolution.
- *My Progress*
1. I installed 5.2 Rocks + 5.2 Viz
- Compute nodes did not show anything because of graphic driver issue.
-
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nA581Lu9RZc/T2PUtQIPdXI/AAAAAAAACTE/2vuUsY235DE/s1337/OptiPortal+166.JPG
2. I tried 5.4 Rocks + 5.4 Viz
- I got the same result.
3. Some suggested to *rebuild Viz Roll* with the new GTX 580 driver.
- Honestly, I don't know how to do that.
-
- *Current Status*
1. Compute node monitor tile still not working.
Thanks in advance!

Step 1. - Go to git.rocksclusters.org and download a tar ball of the viz
roll head
http://git.rocksclusters.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=core/viz/.git;a=summary
Step 2. - Unpack the tarball and cd into the directory
Step 3. - run bootstrap.sh BEFORE you build the roll
Step 4 - make roll
If 1-4 is successful, you should have a viz roll iso.
The above takes a LONG time, the viz roll is big. You may have to debug
various package builds.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you start will Rocks 5.4.2 and the Viz Roll
associated with 5.4.
5.2 is quite old now (released nearly 3 years ago).
Finally, bootstrapping will build a large number of packages AND install
them. You might want a disposable frontend to do this (In Rocks 5.4.3, one
would do this on a development appliance).

So I did the layout.xml but when I do the rocks add tile layout layout.xml
I get
error - cannot resolve host "tile-0-2"
I still proceded in doing rocks sync tile mode=meta and only one compute
node tile-0-1:0.0 did react (one screen). Tile-0-1:0-0 got adjusted to the
native resolution but still 1 screen is lit. The other compute node stayed
the same.
