I recently installed 5.2 Beta. Everything was going fine until I ran
'insert-ethers' and booted a node.
I received the error 'cannot resolve host' and saw red garbled text on the
front end node. This problem has been mentioned in the forum before and the
solution was to add the front end to the DNS, or something along those
lines.
I am a complete n00b and do not know how to go about this.
Any guidance or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Steve

As a self-described n00b, you should know better than to install the
beta version of anything, ever.
This is a know issue with the beta version, you can search for "red
garbled text" in the mailing list and read all about it.
Stick with version 5.1, or wait a few more weeks until the final version
of 5.2 comes out. Somewhere there's a calendar that says when the
target date for a final release is, but I can't find a link anywhere on
rockscluster.org...

I am using 5.2 because 5.1 doesn't have the drivers for my network cards.
Greg tried rebuilding the kernel but that didn't work either so the next
best option was to try 5.2 (even though it is in beta version).
I'd like to get 5.2 up and running before the official release if possible.

With Rocks 5.2 it appears as though the frontend needs to be added to DNS in
order for insert-ethers to work properly.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Steve
With Rocks 5.2 beta, the frontend needs to be in DNS for the install to
work correctly. So, you must have DNS configured properly before
installing the frontend.
Getting a hostname and IP address assigned and in DNS is usually
accomplished by making a request to your local network administrators.
You will have to figure out who your network administrators are and how
to make the request. There should be some sort of helpdesk where you
can start.

sorry for the late reply.
we just finished writing some code so a frontend's FQDN *won't* have
to be resolved by DNS in order to build a cluster.
so, having the frontend in DNS will not be a requirement in the final
release of 5.2.
