I am feeling a conflict. Perhaps some people here can help me resolve
it.

I am a member of the Nashville Peace Coalition, and also a member of
the local Obama supporters groups.

Karl Rove is coming to Nashville. On Saturday he will be the keynote
speaker at a McCain fundraiser.

The Nashville Peace Coalition is in the habit of doing little anti-war
rallies. A "rally" in this case simply means standing by a roadside,
holding up antiwar signs, at some time and place where we'll get some
visibility. That's a form of dissent that we're familiar with. I think
the Nashville Peace Coalition might decide to have an anti-Rove rally.

On the other hand, the Obama supporters are not interested in
participating in an anti-Rove rally; they are following Obama's lead
toward "a new kind of politics"; they don't want to do any "negative
campaigning."

Is there a conflict here? Or are my two organizations in entirely
different genres? If I don't wear my Obama button that day, is it
okay for me to protest against Rove as a member of the Nashville Peace
Coalition? Or would that be disregarding some principle about
"negative campaigning" that I have not yet understood?

Thanks for your opinions, advice, suggestions, comments.

I would not be calling it "anti-Rove". That only leaves room to give Rove more 'fame' time. I would call the 'anti-Rove' rally something like, "War Criminal Alert!" or "Rally for accountability".

Do you see the difference? Karl Rove would be PLEASED to see an 'anti-Rove' rally, you would be proving the point that he is a superpowerful force that all of these peons can protest, but he is still carrying on strong. The rest are calling attention to his bad behavior and your attempts at accountability.

I'm not what an "anti-Rove" rally would be...do you hold up signs saying "Exile Karl Rove to Iraq" and "Karl Rove is a stinky-face poophead"? Or are they signs protesting policies that Turd Blossom has helped bring into existence?

And what is the war which y'all are protesting, anyway? You mean the illegal occupation of Iraq by private armies of Blackwater mercenaries? :)

I liked this so much I wanted to repeat it: "the illegal occupation of Iraq by private armies of Blackwater mercenaries"

Thanks. It's pretty much a distillation of what's in "The Political
Mind". But "stinky-face poophead" is ALL MINE. :)

Also, Lefty...I think it is smears using half-truths, distortions,
innuendo and flat out lies that is unacceptable to Senator Obama.
Painting the other guys worldview in a negative light is perfectly
acceptable. At least I hope that's the way he see it, because if
Barack Obama doesn't stand up and tell it like it is, he is going to
LOSE. He MUST point out what exactly the conservatives have done and
how it DOES NOT FIT with the ideals upon which this country was
founded and which most Americans share. It is EXACTLY what is needed
if we are ever going to change hearts and minds. Karl Rove, George
Bush, Dick Cheney and the rest of the Frat pack are criminals and
traitors to this country. They have aided and abetted enemies of this
country (the corporate fatcats). They have stripped the government of
the ability to protect its citizens. And if Obama won't do it, then we
need to do it FOR him, regardless of what he thinks.

Does the term "Crime syndicate" fit here somehow?
