Greetings everyone!

My name is Khanh, I am a MA design student in Goldsmiths College (London), and I am currently working on a project that involves the repair of a jukebox.

To tell you a bit about this, me and my teammates have been working with the older generation from our local community in Deptford, Lewisham. They gather around to share a friendly moment every week in a charity shop called DAGE

Unfortunately, the place might shut down in the near future because the government suspended all fundings these last couple of years.

Thus, me and my project partners want to support DAGE and make this place the vibrant space it used to be.

We noticed that a jukebox (Rockola 477) was available but the manager of the place told us that a piece was missing for the machine to work.

We have no clue about the missing part, but as multi-disciplined designers, we figured we might be able to design it.

The reason why I am contacting you is to know if you could come and visit us in the shop, to have a look on the jukebox

and/or give us a few recommendations on how we can repair/maintain the machine?

I have attached a few photos of the machine, which I hope will help you somewhat in understanding the problem.

Your help and support could really help the charity and make it a better place.

Many thanks for considering my request.

Regards,

Khanh

I looked at your photos and don't see anything obviously missing other than a fuse in the power supply unit. I also am unsure of the purpose of the dangling lamp cord from the bottom of the power supply and the box it leads to--appears to be some sort of consumer add-on, not factory installed.
Most likely the gripper if frozen up if it has been sitting idle for years. Often blowing hot air from a hair blower for 15 or 20 min. (getting it good and hot) then applying penetrating oil will help loosen it up.
If you have specific questions as to what the jukebox is or isn't doing properly when you power it up I will try to respond. However this group is not particularly large or active, so I suggest you may want to join the Rock-Ola Jukebox Club, Rock-Ola Jukebox Collectors, and/or Jukebox Repair Help groups on facebook.
I think you will be more likely to find folks from the UK there who can help.
good luck, Ed

Dear Ed,

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I have since joined some of these Facebook groups you mentioned. And I will let you all know how I get on, as I've just acquired the fuse, and will be inspecting what the problem is.

Warm regards,

Khanh
