D. S. Ramanujam of The Hindu wrote, "Debutant director Dilip Kumar, who takes credit for the story, screenplay and dialogue, not knowing which portion of the theme to improve upon, the comedy aspect or the minuscule of a drama, sinks in the quagmire he creates".[4] K. N. Vijiyan of New Straits Times wrote, "I liked the director's empasis on educational values. And, at least, you don't have a hero whose sole interest seems to be having a jolly good time in the campus".[5]
One of the greatest joys for myself personally around this time of year is watching the iconic Christmas movies that I adored as a child. There are several Christmas movies that give me joy and immediately get me in the holly jolly spirit. Below is a ranked list of Christmas movies that are a staple in my life this time of year.
This gathering of wonderful movies makes for a perfect marathon night with friends and family. Spending time with warm blankets, hot drinks, and a lit up Christmas tree can create the perfect atmosphere that can bring an infinite amount of joy.
Wait! There are films for those days when your cheer is not in gear. Save yourself from going full Scrooge with this slate of holiday favorites that take a more sanguine approach to this season. And some you might not realize are holiday movies at all.
The Santa Clause: One of my all-time favorite movies, The Santa Clause is about a not-so-jolly man who suddenly becomes who he no longer believes in. Tim Allen plays the grumpy toy designer (imagine that) who discovers that magic and Saint Nick are actually real.

Usually, when someone thinks of Santa Claus in a movie, they think of a wonderfully jolly and generous man in a red suit. When thinking of unsavory depictions of Santa Claus, the first one that likely comes to mind is Billy Bob Thornton's aptly named Bad Santa. He wasn't the real Santa in the black comedy, of course. Rather, he was a mall Santa who only took the job so he could scope out the shopping mall and rob it after hours.
Santa Claus is known to be a big, jolly, sweet character. But that isn't necessarily always the case in movies. Sometimes, holiday films designed for adults showcase Santas doing pretty bad things, and being generally awful. In fact, even some kids' movies have shown less-than-ideal Santas. With new Christmas movies coming out each year, these continue to include interpretations of Santa that are not meant to delight in the traditional sense.
Marking John Ritter's last live-action performance before his death, Bad Santa is rude, offensive, and completely opposite of what Christmas movies should be all about. But oddly, that's what makes it such a great movie. It was a commercial success and even spawned a sequel.
Of course, someone would develop a horror movie centered around jolly Saint Nick, turning him into a sinister character that could ruin childhoods and taint memories. In this psychological slasher film, a man who is obsessed with Santa Claus decides to don his signature red and white suit before embarking on a murder spree.
His trauma dates back to witnessing his parents' murder on Christmas Eve, then being abused in an orphanage. For those into such niche slasher films, it's warped and vulgar, but developed a cult following. And it remains one of the movies with a Santa who is the complete opposite of the ones from childhood memories.
That man is eventually fired, and the real Santa takes his place to save the day. In addition to being one of the best Christmas movies, Miracle on 34th Street is often considered mandatory Thanksgiving viewing as well. Despite the depiction of a "bad Santa" in the beginning, Miracle on 34th Street has some heartwarming quotes.
One Santa taunts him relentlessly until they all begin to attack, using everything from makeshift nunchucks to swift punches to the face. It's a hilarious scene from Jingle All the Way, made more so because of the bright and jolly red and white Santa suits doing heinous things.
In one of the best Christmas movies of the 2000s, Buddy the Elf accuses a mall Santa, played by Artie Lange, of not being the real Santa: he knows, of course, because he knows Santa personally. (Who is actually played by Ed Asner in the movie). The mall Santa's witty retort? He declares that Buddy's biological father is "on the naughty list."
This black comedy - one of the best home invasion movies that isn't Home Alone - is about a cat burglar who kidnaps a family only to end up in the middle of their intense arguments after having just come from marriage counseling. He finds himself acting as mediator, helping them with their marital issues.
Jolie is one of the most recognizable celebrities to ever emerge from Hollywood, and her filmography spans over the past three decades. In that time, she has starred in a number of films both good and bad. While her career as a director takes off, it's good to remember her talents as an actress as well as a filmmaker by looking back at some of her best work. Here are the 10 all-time best Angelina Jolie movies, ranked.
Over the course of her 26-year career, Jolie has chosen projects that span many genres: action thrillers, prestige biopics, and more. She has won an Oscar, and has been nominated for eight Golden Globes. She has directed four feature films (three war movies, and another, more personal project), and serves as special envoy to the UN Refugee Agency.
While Jolie has proved that she's a capable action lead through movies like "Salt" and "Lara Croft": Tomb Raider," my favorite of her action films actually sees her in a supporting role. With Nicolas Cage leading an ensemble that includes Giovanni Ribisi, Delroy Lindo, Timothy Olyphant, Robert Duvall, and Christopher Eccleston (delightfully doing his own Manchester accent), "Gone in 60 Seconds" is the fun and entertaining car-based heist film that should have spawned ten sequels, not that other franchise.
Netflix is available in a number of different countries and because of this, it's worth noting which of her films are available in which country. And of course, as Netflix lineups change all the time, these movies are only guaranteed to be available for Netflix in their given country as of the time of this writing.
Afterwards, the movie cuts to an Angry Birds World scene where Hal watches the movie and rants on it for its flawed ending. He tells Red, Chuck, Bomb and Matilda about it, they watch it, and then agree with Hal that the movies ending lead to nothing.
There are many people in Hollywood whose work I grew up watching, many of whom turned me in the direction of loving movies and TV. One was Meryl Streep, another was Leonardo DiCaprio, and the last was Angelina Jolie. I grew up loving Angelina Jolie in all her films, thinking that she was one of the best actresses around. And, to this day, I still do, with her having taken on even more roles, from playing the iconic villain Maleficent to one of her more recent roles, in Those Who Wish Me Dead.
Tom Hardy, known for his roles in movies such as Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage, is set to produce alongside Dean Baker, under their banner Hardy Son & Baker, with Working Title Films. Don McCullin himself, as well as Mark George, will be executive producing.
