THIS WEEKEND IS A GREAT WEEKEND FOR TABLETOP ROLE-PLAYING GAMES!
Starting Friday at 7:00 pm, StationRetro in Huntsville is hosting a Dungeons & Dragons game with a theme based on the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things! The adventure, Hunt for the Thessalhydra, is from the Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set and allows you to explore the Upside Down as a D&D character of a Stranger Things character. (How meta is THAT?!) All play materials are provided and the game is open to old or new D&D players. This is a two-part adventure with the second part being held on the next Friday (Oct 22). The cost to participate in both games is $15 total.
Then Saturday hits, and with it, Free RPG Day! On Free RPG Day, attendees get to snag free RPG products from a treasure trove of adventures, previews, and accessories from a variety of game companies. We have three stores in the area participating this year: The Deep Comics & Games, Haven Comics, Etc., and Lucky Dice Cafe.
Unfortunately, The Deep Comics & Games in Huntsville has yet to post any Free RPG Day guidelines or game events. Feel free to contact the store for more information.
Haven Comics, Etc. in Madison is hosting a plethora of games and prize raffles as well as free product! Games start at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm with no pre-registration, cost, or game experience requirements. However, masks are required. If you want to play, show up and grab a seat while seats are available! The 10:00 am games include Dungeon Crawl Classics (fantasy), Pathfinder (fantasy), and Call of Cthulhu (modern horror). The 2:00 pm games are Dungeons & Dragons Ravenloft (fantasy horror), Generic Fantasy (fantasy), and Dread (modern horror). During the event, Haven Comics is also raffling great prizes to raise funds for a local charity, Kids to Love.
Lucky Dice Cafe in Huntsville is also hosting a huge selection of games, free product, a painting contest, and a 20% sale on all RPG products! Some of the Free RPG Day product is rarer than others so the store is holding random drawings throughout the day for the rarest items. Games start 11:00-11:30 am with no pre-registration, cost, or game experience requirements. (Anyone else have feelings of déjà vu, but in a good way?) The games include Humblewood (fantasy animal-humanoid), Pathfinder (fantasy), Vast Grimm (sci-fi horror), and Dungeon Crawl Classics (fantasy). If you want to give the painting contest a go, simply buy a WizKids miniature from the store, paint it at the paint table (paint and brushes provided), and submit it to be judged by 5:30 pm.
Of course, you also have the usual regularly scheduled weekend games available. StationRetro hosts D&D on both Saturday and Sunday (pay events) while Lucky Dice Cafe hosts the D&D Adventurers League organized play program on Sunday (free). You can contact the stores for more information on these games.
