Scouters,
Saturday is the Day of Difference. We are looking for groups to participate in service projects statewide. Have you found one yet? If not let me recommend the following:
The following project is still available if you have any units or groups that are looking for projects.
Habitat for Humanity
ReStore Volunteering- At the ReStore, Habitat sells new and used building material, appliances, and paint. Money generated through the store goes back into building homes for area families. The ReStore can accommodate up to 10 volunteer at one time. Youth groups are welcome to volunteer with a responsible leader. Volunteers in the store help unload and clean donations, stock items in the store, and help with store upkeep. I have reserved a shift from 10am-2pm for the Boy Scouts to volunteer on April 17th.
Hold a ReStore scavenger hunt- Create and post flyers asking for donations of building materials, furniture, appliances, or paint. Pass flyers out in your surrounding neighborhood and pick up items to donate them to the ReStore. Any items donated are eligible for tax receipt.
Landscape kits-Collect items and put together kits for Habitat families. Landscape kits include a shovel, rake, hose, grass seed and garden hand tools. Habitat builds about 5 homes a year, any kits donated will go to these homeowners on the day of their ribbon cutting. Any kits donated are tax deductable.
Build a Can house-Habitat’s aluminum can recycle program is looking for more can houses to place throughout the county. These can houses collect donated aluminum cans which Habitat recycles. Money generated through these efforts go back into building homes for area families. Habitat has basic instructions on how to build the can house to follow that can be picked up in the office. Groups are responsible to provide material to build can house. Once can house is built, Habitat would be happy to pick it up.
