All - I went to Locher Tract yesterday morning to see which winter birds were present.  The beaver pond and back pond were frozen over - it was in the mid-20s.  In the marsh grass near the beaver pond there were many Song and Swamp Sparrows.  Farther back and towards the back pond in the trees were Golden-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrushes, Bluebirds, White-throated Sparrows, Red-bellied and Pileated WP, and near the wooden bridge there was a Winter Wren.  In the trees near the parking area there were Carolina Chickadees, Carolina Wren, Titmice, and a group of Ruby-crowned Kinglets.  I looked hard for a creeper but didn't find one.  On the way back to Lexington, I drove along River Rd.  There were about 30 Common Mergansers and one Hooded Merganser.

Here are a few photos from Locher Tract - https://www.flickr.com/photos/vmibiology

We've had 5-6 Purple Finches at our house feeders today.

Quite a winter day you had! If you see any YBSA  I’d be curious about maturity and gender. Hatch year female in Swoope today.

I've seen and heard what seems to be more YBSA this year than in previous years.  Overall, I'm seeing more adults than juveniles.  I haven't paid attention to gender, sorry.
