All the videos start playing, and play for usually a minute or more but then stop and that message appears. I can get back to the previous screen and hit play again and it plays the content, again for just a minute or so.

If you hold down the Menu button and the down arrow on the remote for 10 sec until the LED on the front of the Apple TV begins to flash. Let go of the buttons and the Apple TV will do a soft reboot.
This has been happening to me several times a week and doing this seems to fix the issue.

For my Apple TV 4K, Buddy's answer worked as well, but my remote has no down arrow. I had to reboot the Apple TV by pressing the MENU button and the TV button together for a couple seconds until the LED flashes and TV went dark.

Another odd thing though was that I had to "reboot" a couple of times as it failed to fully load the menus the first two times and the remote was completely unresponsive... It starting to sound like I may have a faulty unit...

like all ive seen this error also.the source can be anything from the apple tv not being able to contact the server where the content is located, so anything on your local network preventing access like your router. Or if you switch tv inputs while a video is loaded and paused, when you come back you may see this error and its due to HDMI content protection DRM crap.

currently i only see this error when trying to send a video via airplay from my iphone when the video is in a format that the apple tv cant understand, usually from an app using the webview and the video is loaded from there instead of safari.

I have the same problem. Internet signal good. When I go to settings and network, it indicates a green check for internet and wireless. I can use the internet on my laptop. In fact I am typing this on my laptop now. But when I try to use any of the Roku apps such as netflix, AmazonPrime, YouTube TV, I get messages like "failed to load content", or "no internet connection." I have unplugged and plugged everything multiple times. We have two Roku devices on different TVs. Same problem on each. I swapped out one Roku for an Apple TV box and had the same problem. I see that no one actually helped the prior writer. Has anyone had the same issue. Any ideas?

Didn't work for me. 3 devices, nothing changes, did all the steps. Internet went out and now I feel like I'm back to square one looking for a streaming device. Really need on call customer service, feel like searching through this page is pointless because of so many issues.

Greetings from the Roku Community, and thanks for keeping us posted!
We'd love to investigate this issue further. May we know how far your Roku device is from your network router? Did we recently make any changes to your network or network provider? How many devices do you have connected to your network right now? (e.g., TV, mobile phone, laptops, computer) Do you have cellular data so we can try connecting your device to your hotspot?

I have made no changes to internet services, no new equipment and have had Roku for about 4 years. There is a "not connected" error message. This has never happened before. The TV and modem have not been moved. There hasn't been a problem until 2 days ago. We have rebooted everything - router and Roku - Roku more than once. There are 2 bars out of 3 on the internet connection on the laptop - which has always been enough to stream in the past (I can stream Prime directly from the laptop). Have there been changes with Roku that require more speed now than last week? Do I need to upgrade the internet service speed?

A warm welcome here in the Roku Community!
We will be more than happy to take a closer look into this issue that you're having. Could you provide us with the serial number of your Roku device? What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

We have reset Roku probably 3-4 times, turned power off and on a few times, shut down the modem/router, reentered the PW on Roku, moved the TV around - but there was no reason to think that would help, as modem and TV have been in the same place relative to each other since before we had Roku. Perhaps the Roku model is just old and we need a new one.

Thanks Bagster! Your solution worked for me. Nothing physical had changed with my setup. Nothing changed with my network/firewall. I got home from work tonight and turned on my ATV. I was prompted to update my ATV software, but declined at first. Then I tried to watch a movie on Netflix and kept receiving this error. I reset the ATV unit and tried again - nothing. So I decided to update the software thinking that might fix it. Update completed, but still unable to stream. I could make it to selecting the video with no problem, and I tried several different ones, but none of them would play. I reseated all my cables, tried another HDMI cable and still no luck. I decided to search online (What did we do before Google?) and found this thread - I changed my HDMI output in Audio/Video settings from Auto to YCbCr and it started working.

It might be your internet connection. i had the same problem My wifi in my house is fine but needs this sort of internet login which you get on phones and laptop but since it cannot be used on the apple TV is just says connected and may connect with a good signal but it may not play any video at all. i tried connecting it to my iphone 4s' internet connection through hotspot it worked perfectly, so i just blamed it on the internet connection.

I recently bought an Apple TV3 (30-01-2014) and rented a movie through itunes to test the Apple TV3. I too received the error experienced by everyone... I did a lot of reading on the issue and tried everything people suggested but still nothing work.

The only solution I haven't tried is the DNS "fix". Setting it to the google DNS or as suggested by FingerCuffs to my router's IP. Hopefully this will work.....I will provided an update as soon as I've attempted it. However I need some guidance in finding out what my router's IP is. I have a the new AirPort express. Any suggestion of what it will be or where I can find it?

Just an update on my post above. I tried the DNS fix proposed by FingerCuffs. I change the DNS on the Apple TV 3 to the IP of my AirPort Express. And the work!!!!! The error is gone and I could view the movie! Didn't try setting the DNS to the Google IP 008.008.008.008 so not so if it will work.

I have 2 Apple TVs. One is a jailbroken ATV2 and one is an ATV3. I am not receiving this error on my JB ATV2 on netflix, hulu or youtube content at all. I am receiving the error when trying to use airplay and send content from a website www.tvgrapevine.com which has mp4 clips that I am trying to stream using airplay. But what is weird is that when I use my ATV3 I can stream those clips from that site with no problems. I only get the error when trying to use my JB ATV2. It is very frustrating. I have tried chaning the DNS code to the .008 and going manual instead of automatic but that did not work. And as I said, everything else is playing fine except clips from this website. I also am able to stream from iTunes from my iPhone to the JB ATV2 with no problems as well.

I have been getting this error message for the past few days now. I have mostly been watching Netflix on my AppleTV, so it's only happened while watching shows on Netflix. Tonight was the worst, as it happened 5 or 6 times. I have had my AppleTV for less than three weeks, so I hope it is not a problem with the device itself. I unhooked and then reconnected the device and also moved it to a new location. I also went to Settings > General > Restart and Settings > General > Software Update, but none of these things has stopped the problem. So if I change the DNS setting from automatic to manual, then enter my IP address, the problem should go away? If not, I guess my only other options would be to run an ethernet cable through the house, which I don't really want to do, or take it back to the store and exchange it. Thanks.

I followed FingerCuff's instructions and everything was fine for a couple of nights, but I have started getting the error message again. Not sure what else to do but exchange the device for another one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tried resetting when I first started having this problem a couple of weeks ago, and it hasn't prevented the problem from reoccuring. When the error occurs, I can easily get back to my program and resume watching it, but that's not the issue. I shouldn't be randomly disconnected right in the middle of a show or movie. It's annoying and pulls me out of the experience. If the Apple TV is not going to work properly, it's not worth having.

Usually, Apple TV is considered as the most consistent device for set-top streaming. Though being considered as the best one, its performance too depends on various factors including servers of any content channel, your data connection and so on. So if you are dealing with Apple TV "an error occurred loading this content apple tv" or "there's a problem loading this content" and couldn't see videos, there may be number of possibilities for the problem.

This is 100% easy way to fix any problems like there's a problem loading this content when you're facing, there is no doubt that basic issue can be fixed through this way. Simply go to Settings > General > Restart. Or you can hold down the bottom button and menu button for nearly 6 seconds, until your Apple TV restarts again.

If leaving subtitles off doesn't solve an error occurred while loading this content on Apple TV, it is time you check your Internet connection. It may be moderate and very slow. Data travels through various servers before reaching to your Apple TV. And when your Internet connection is slow, you will see Apple TV error loading content. To check if your Internet connection is fine, go to ATV's network test (which is built-in). Follow path Settings >> General >> Network >> Test Network.

Apple TV assumes that all its users need to watch all the things in HD. Look fellas, high-quality is preferable, but what if your Internet is slow? In such cases, SD is the most preferable option. Simply change the video quality of Apple TV by going to Settings >> Audio & Video >> TV Resolution. If 1080p is selected, change it to 720p.
