Food delivery help for Saturday Nov 17 / Sunday Nov 18

I live in Flatbush and am reaching out to friends to organize cooking up a big batch of hot food for next weekend (the 17th or 18th) in the Rockaways.

I don't have a way to transport it though. Does anyone have a big car or van, available next weekend around 10 am either day? And does anyone have ingredients they can donate / know where to look? I saw a note somewhere about City Harvest donating ingredients. I love to cook and can work with whatever is available.

Also, any advice on getting food to elderly or disabled people in the hi-rises? Is anyone on the ground in Rockaway coordinating that?

We put together a ride share that quickly connects drivers with volunteers: http://www.gowanusstudio.org/relief/rideshare.html

List yourself on the ride share with what you can offer and please do reach out to others who are driving. Please try to self organize as much as possible, everyone is stretched thin! 

We do have coordination on the ground. We have partnered with 15 coordinators who are in The Rockaways. They are residents, restaurant owners, church leaders, community organizers etc.

I have a car, not huge (Honda Civic) but it can fit some food.

Also, I am a former chef who used to cook for 500+ people on a daily basis. What days are you cooking? I would love to help if I can.

Thank you Carol! A couple of my friends are interested, so I think I can build on this... I'll research the links and see what I can arrange.

Jasmine that's great! If I can't get a bigger car from someone else I'll lean on you for yours. The cooking would either be Saturday or Sunday morning (the 17th or 18th), depending on when people are most available. Are you free either day right now?

I'm not cooking up stuff today, but I got an email from a locally based group in Rockaways that is making meals today (and everyday Wed to Sunday). If you can get out there, they could use you.

Email Bethany at rockawayrescuealliance (at) gmail (dot) com. They need help cooking and delivering the meals to the homebound.
