Any more, I just use a video editor for slide shows. Just as easy, and I don't have to worry about if the people viewing it have the right computer, can use exe files, etc. I can distribute to people's phones, tablets, PCs and Macs with equal ease.
Exactly. The old slideshow software - proshow and P2E are now outdated. A decent video editor will produce effectively the same output, generating EXE files is useless these days - just generate video files that can play on ANY device.
PTE AV Studio 10 is a full 64 bit program which can do many, many things not possible with other software including non-linear editors (Video Editors). Your assumption that "no one would really use them" is just dead wrong. Do yourself a huge favor and get better educated on this subject before giving out incorrect information. Your assumption that exe files can be replaced with video files is also incorrect. Thousand of people use executable files for presentations because of interactivity. It's simply not possible to take a video presentation and have total manual control because video is a "canned" presentation. There is no ability to make real-time decisions about which image to show next, or to go to a particular slide, etc. PTE is very popular with university professors who give presentations because of the versatility including the ability to produce EITHER exe shows or the highest quality video all in one software.
PTE produces the highest quality 4k video files possible for every type of current device (phones, tablets, computers, televisions, etc). It has been released for Windows and will be released in full beta for MacIntosh VERY shortly. The software uses hardware rendering (GPU), unlimited layers, unlimited audio tracks, styles, themes, 3d constructs, hierarchical constructs, light or dark mode, split audio clips, separate audio from video, etc., etc., etc. it can and has been able for years to do MANY things not possible at all with video editors and do other things exceedingly easier and faster than any video editor.
There are good reasons why people have told you that this program can do things video editors cant. Why do you think that video editors are not the world-wide choice for those who compete in audiovisual (AV) competitions? Do you actually think people who create AV shows in world-wide competition are ignorant? If so, you have a lot to learn.
Here are a few links to some shows I have created over the years with PTE. If you think a video editor is capable of doing this - please just give us a single example to demonstrate your assertion! In one of these examples, I created a rotating, zooming icosahedron (a 20 sided 3d construct) which has three thousand, six hundred and twenty videos running simultaneously. Go ahead and try to create this with any video editor. PTE can do chroma key extraction, alpha-channel video, plus countless things easier and better than ANY NLE video software.
Yes, perhaps few people need or want to do the things I demonstrate, but the important fact is that the ABILITY to do these things is part of the extreme flexibility of this software; flexibility unmatched by ANY other software available. I invite readers to click the links below and see a few of the things possible with PTE.
Yes, sadly Photodex is officially out of business. They have not had any updates on their products now since 2018 and all their operations will be "officially" closed January 31 but there has been zero activity for a long, long time now.
Look at my samples produced throughout the years with this amazing product and don't be mislead by people who attempt to make you believe that video editors (NLE's) can do everything which Producer and PTE can do. They absolutely can NOT.
That is, without a doubt, a correct statement. Different approaches to the same functionality open up different capabilities, and close other paths. I had Photodex for years, and I liked it well enough, but the way I used it there was no difference between its performance and that of a video editor.
Plus , it was getting to the point where Photodex was VERY expensive. I couldn't justify it when compared to a fairly competent mid level video editor like ACDSee Video Studio 2 (now up to V4) even when comparing upgrade costs.
Photodex produced very nice and useful software with Proshow Producer and Proshow Gold. Their pricing structure, however, IMHO was not correct. They began when Producer was first released by pricing it at $500 and requiring the use of a "dongle." This turned many people off. At the same time, PTE was VERY reasonably priced (and still is) and offered many things not possible with Producer such as 3d constructs, hierarchical constructs (parent/child relationships), RGB AVI alpha channel video capability, etc. As a user of both products since their inception, I saw the handwriting on the wall. The pricing of Photodex's products dropped to half of the original price in a few years but Photodex did not, and could not keep up with PTE's progress because they had programmed themselves into a corner and simply couldn't make the necessary changes to get true 3d transforms, parent/child, hardware rendering, 64-bit architecture and so on. When closing business, Photodex was still charging nearly $250 while the more powerful and versatile PTE was only charging $139. PTE has ALWAYS had regular updates and added features while Photodex simply stopped making real updates and only bug fixes were addressed for long periods of time.
If all someone wants to do is produce videos with audio then an NLE is fine and even the slideshows produced by Lightroom, etc., are fine. But if one wishes to do more, there is no other product even remotely close to PTE available without getting into "thousands" of dollars for something like Wings Platinum (advanced versions). There are numerous presentation slideshow products available, but they are highly restricted in what they can do and have very little flexibility. Believe me, I've used nearly all the major competitive products and found them highly restrictive.
PTE is a very special product that allows users a nuts and bolts approach to creating presentations. The only limitations with this product are a person's creativity. It's by NO means an outdated product because it can produce videos equal to the very best non-linear video editors PLUS do incredible things not even remotely possible with non-linear video editors. If one wants exe shows for Mac or PC - no problem. If one wants 4K video which renders faster than with leading NLE's - no problem. Price? Highly competitive with any quality video editor except, perhaps the free ones such as DaVinci Resolve 12 or HitFilm 3 Express. With these products which are dedicated video editors you "can" do some things possible with PTE but with a huge learning curve and a very awkward way of achieving it. On the other hand, if you want the full power of any NLE (non-linear video editor) you still have to pay big-time for the real product and not the "free" version.
This is precisely why world-wide AV competition winners choose PTE as their tool of choice. The flexibility and versatility are unparalleled with any NLE's. There is a place for both type products and neither totally replaces the other.
If you are a working wedding photographer, for example, you simply will NOT use an NLE to make your client's presentation. There is no time to learn all the intricacies necessary which can be accomplished with PTE with a few free professional styles, themes, and very few keystrokes. If you are a casual amateur photographer and want to produce beautiful shows for friends and relatives, there is simply no substitute for using a product like PTE which can do things for you with a few keystrokes which you would only dream of being able to do with an NLE.
One has to see what can be done with PTE to believe how easy it is with free themes and styles to avail themselves of the skills of experienced users to make striking presentations quickly and easily.
