Hi everybody--
A colleague told me today that a discussion of sustainable transportation infrastructure is on the agenda for the next meeting of the University of Rochester Faculty Senate. The meeting will take place Tuesday, 9 May, 4-6 pm in the Hawkins-Carlson room of Rush Rhees Library. For all you faculty nerds out there--you know who you are--I urge you to attend! I'll be there. And does anybody know U of R faculty involved with Reconnect Rochester? They might also want to attend.

For everybody in the group, what questions or topics should we raise at that meeting? I'll start the brainstorming:
1. Thanks for snowplowing the River Trail and thanks for letting winter-only drivers keep their place in line for parking permits.
2. What will Hugh Kierig's yet-to-be-announced replacement do to sustain and extend Hugh's initiatives supporting alternative transportation?
3. Bike share is coming to Rochester. How will U of R participate?

Please add more ideas. What would we love to see the U of R doing?

Doug, sorry for the delay in my response to your message below. MJ Curry and Kevin McFarland, the faculty senate co-chairs, reached out to consult with me about next week's meeting several times going back to last December. Karen Berger, who co-chairs the UR sustainability council, and I met with them two or three times. They considered bringing in an outside speaker from Cornell, but ultimately decided to go with local talent. Scott MacRae will speak to them to share the cycling religion and Karen Berger will speak about car pooling and transit. I tried to get them to bring in Mike Governale or someone from Reconnect, but they decided against it (probably just as well given that RR will be preparing for their big fundraiser next Friday). It will be great to have you and other faculty members there to speak up and share your views and experiences. I will be there and my hope remains that we can steer the UR toward better facilities and culture by agreeing to 1)convene a bike/ped advisory committee and 2)creating a bike/ped dimension to the facilities master plan.

Best,
Glenn
