Hi cycling enthusiasts—
I’m writing today from Trondheim, Norway, where I’m visiting on a work trip and which I find to be a real beacon for bikes as transportation. I count more bikes than cars on nearly every street. I’ve seen automatic bike/ped counters keeping track of the traffic, double-decker racks for bike parking, and even a bike elevator, sort of like a ski lift, to help cyclists to the top of a big hill. Trondheim proves that bike infrastructure is possible, that bikes can be the primary form of transportation in a city, and that the resulting quality of life is fantastic—even in a snowy city. I’ll write more about Trondheim soon for the RCA website.

Today I’m writing to remind you that the next meeting of the Rochester Cycling Alliance will take place Thursday, 21 September at 7:00 at a special location: the Community Design Center of Rochester, 1115 E Main St. The agenda is below, and I hope you can be there, because it will be great.

—Doug
