To All RCA members:

This information was received from Darin Ramsay <dra...@gtcmpo.org> of the Genesee Transportation Council

GTC has just taken delivery of a MioVision camera. We plan to test the technology out over the coming months, and if successful, we can budget for a few more cameras. The whole apparatus straps and locks to any pole, so setup should only require a ladder. The camera can take videos up to 2 weeks in duration. The best place for this camera will be at intersections or complicated road sections.

Also, GTC has received the Bike/Walk counter from EcoCounter. I’d like to use one of the Genesee River Trails and leave the unit in place through the winter (though we’ll have to remove the bike tubes come snowfall). This will help get us a picture of winter usage…which will hopefully lead to getting the city to plow those paths through the winter.

We have 3 TrafX detectors that I’ll be deploying down on the Keuka Lake Trail for the next few months. These cost effective counters are mostly good for rural trail settings, but might be of use elsewhere in the network. It is an easily expandable system at ~$500 a counter, but only detects bikes OR peds and doesn’t detect direction.

Darin is looking for help to select sites and deploy equipment. Please contact him directly to arrange a date/time to help.

Thanks.

Richard
