Greetings NYS Bike Clubs.
Similar to last year when we had a
facilitated discussion among advocates from around the state, this year
we are planning a big open-ended discussion on another very important
topic at the 2018 New York Bike Summit - the Future of Bike Clubs In NYS.
There
will be a lovely room at the Gideon Putnam set aside and a time for
folks to move in and out and join the discussion. I know we all share
many concerns about the future of bike clubs - aging out, communication
techniques, and a host of issues relating to clubs and their role
locally and regionally with regard to education, infrastructure,
advocacy, tourism and even dealing with law enforcement.
Bike clubs have been key to the statewide bike movement for as long as NYBC has been around (1990).
Many of you have been very supportive of NYBC in the past as well as
the present. We are wondering whether a few of you want to be involved,
and work with me and Dan Suraci in fashioning a really great session.
We also need to identify a strong moderator. Anyone game?
An
updated Summit content doc is attached. And a cute new Summit flyer.
If you have not seen our updated Landing Page for the 2018 New York
Bike Summit -
here it is!
NYBC
is a much different organization in recent years - we have tripled our
budget and are active throughout the state not just in advocacy and
education but also tourism, enforcement, and providing Expert Assistance
and consulting services on projects ranging from a NYSERDA funded
Complete Streets curriculum for local public officials, an Empire State
Trail Extension feasibility study on Long Island and a Great South Woods
Cycling Strategy for Hamilton County. These have all been described
in past issues of our monthly e-news,
archived here.
Thanks and hoping to hear from some of you soon!
