Dear RCA Friends,

I wanted to past this along since I know not all of you connect to our Facebook site.

As we kick off this new year, I'd like to ask for your help with something important. As you know, this spring the City of Rochester will attempt to set up a Bike Sharing system. This week Reconnect Rochester will launch a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for bike share stations in underserved neighborhoods along the northern edge of downtown — between the Public Market and the Rochester Intermodal Station.

This is critical because the City of Rochester is not funding the bike share system. It is up to the community to sponsor the bike stations or they will not be placed. Each bike station requires a community or corporate sponsorship of $9,000 in order to be set up and run for 1 year.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Reconnect Rochester is in a unique position to empower individual citizens who wish to make small tax-deductible contributions and help fund bike stations which might not otherwise be funded.

Our goal is to fund at least five (5) stations in the Marketview Heights & Upper Falls neighborhoods. The attached map shows the general vicinities where we'd like those stations to be. It's a lofty goal, but even if we can raise enough for one station near the Public Market, it’ll be worth the effort.

Here are three things you can do to help…

1. Make a contribution today at http://crowdrise.com/rochester-bike-share
2. Share this message with your social media friends
3. Ask your neighborhood group or employer to help get the word out

Unfortunately there isn’t much time. Sponsorships are due by the end of January, so our campaign will end January 31. But I know we can do it!

Keep your eyes on our Facebook/Twitter feeds for updates throughout the month. We will officially announce the campaign tomorrow morning. I just wanted to give you guys the heads-up.

Cheers to a healthy, happy, and productive 2017

Throwing in my two cents with some brevity. If possible, we should encourage the City to design any docking stations near the Public Market with more capacity than usual. If people using the bike sharing system to commute to the market, not being able to find a place nearby to dock a bike is going to quickly discourage people from using it.
