Below is a response from Paul Voight that he posted on Facebook regarding USHPA’s vote to amend the by laws:



Hello HVFF F.B. page readers ! (Please read)

So... I just received the most bizarre email from the USHPA.

For those who don't know me.... I was on the USHPA board of directors for 30+ years... attended over 100 consecutive meetings (never missed a single one) and know a bit about USHPA governance.

The email/news/announcement you will get from USHPA warns you about a bylaws vote that is about to happen, in which all members should vote (only members can change bylaws).

I believe you should VOTE NO to all the proposed amendments !!!!!

The Board USED to be 26 people deep... (With TWELVE regions of representation), and sensitive topics were well vetted by the group, and it was basically impossible for a small group to "take the ball and run with it" That board system worked wonderfully.

Then.... towards the end of my Board time... the board was reduced to 10 persons (two voted in by said board), and the number of regions to 5. (I did not like these reductions....)

NOW.... they propose to reduce the board to 8 people, the regions to TWO (only).... extend terms of BOD members by a year.... and REDUCE THE VOTING QUORUM FROM 10% to 5% of the members, AND remove the requirement for letters of recommendation for Director candidates....

All of this will allow a small group to get on the board easily.... stay on for longer, and to take this organization in any direction it wants to.... and the number of people weighing in on any given topic will be reduced to very few opinions/points of view.

Maybe it's just me... but these proposed bylaws amendments seem crazy.

Thanks Chris for posting this.

I was perplexed when I read the email about the direction the currently leadership of the USHPA was going with the new bylaws. I think there was also something about reducing the adherence to the diversity efforts. Altogether, it does seem like an effort of a few people to control the direction of the Organization. I think there was some streamlining necessary last time we went through this, but these new ideas are going too far. I very much agree with what Paul is saying.

The email says that we should be receiving further instructions on or about October 6th when voting begins. 

There's usually a link to see the candidates and their backgrounds and viewpoints before you vote.
