Paragliging in Columbia with Eagle - Part 1

I just landed and got back to the hotel on the last of seven days of guided paragliding with the eagle in the Valle del Cauca, Columbia.

Here is one of my launches caught by Dave Oddy who is down here for two weeks.

Lots of exciting adventures! over 11 hours of air time, including my first cross country flights, the best of which were 2:48 with 26 kilometers and 2:22 with 24 kilometers. Team fying, huge gaggles, cloud suck, and in one instance of inadvertent cloud flying on the first day. no injuries, other than a scraped knee from landing in a rough tilled field.

It was by far the best free flying instruction I have ever experienced. The coaching by the eagle guides superb and individualized.

I have many more stories, flight tracks, and 360 video to share, but I wanted to drop this first installment.

Wow – Great pics.  Looks like you had a great trip!  Very jealous.  Congrats on the XC flights, too!

Two quick things…

The launch is actually a video. If you tap the picture, it should launch. After I sent it I realized that it was not obvious in the email. 

The video gives a good sense of launching from the mountains where we try to recycle and stay at cloud base until the valley heats up so we push out and cross. 

In the mountains the challenges is stay high AND out of the clouds. The valley requires you to stay alive in more scattered and weaker lift.

You pretty much stay high above the spines.  Thermals are easy to find unless it's a total sledder.   But later in the day, the spines get dangerous, so as soon as the flats are working, you leave high ground and cross the valley to the other side and play in the flats.
