Volunteer Activities
The
National Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate New York Chapter
provides programs and services to more than 12,000 people living with
multiple sclerosis (MS) in 50 counties throughout Upstate New York. The
National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to
drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone
affected by MS. In 2010 we are launching a new volunteer program to
directly help people with MS remain independent and in their homes. Our
first MS Service Day is scheduled for June 12, 2010.
MS Service Day is a volunteer program in which teams of volunteers will
meet at five hubs located throughout Rochester and surrounding areas
and go out to the homes of people with MS to perform household chores
and light repair work – projects the person with MS can no longer
perform because of the effects of multiple sclerosis. Whether
volunteers paint a room, organize a closet, landscape a garden or fix a
broken screen door, they will be helping people with MS improve their
home and quality of life, and, for some, it might allow them to remain
in a safe and familiar environment. MS Service Day will make a
difference in the life of someone with MS. With your support we hope to
send teams out from each of the five hubs and serve families throughout
New York affected by MS.
Here in Rochester, there are several families that are in desperate
need of this program. Due to their MS, they are no longer able to
manage all of the necessary work that needs to be done to keep up a
home.
We are asking for your support for this exciting volunteer program. We
are currently in desperate need in volunteers.
If anyone from Rochester Young Professionals is interested in
volunteering, please contact Kate Murray at
Kmu...@msupstateny.org or
