In this week’s newsletter there are community events that you may want to attend and some announcements.

Next week, join us on Thursday for volunteering with Foodlink.  This is a great way to meet other YPs while giving back to the community. If you are interested in volunteering, email Teresa at <ter...@newkenmore.com>. On Saturday, RYP members is being offered discounted tickets to a Party in the Garden at Naz after a dance theater performance.

The Rochester Women's Network will honor 10 Up & Coming Businesswomen from our community for their professional and career leadership potential at The Summit Business Conference luncheon on Monday, November 8, 2010. This honor acknowledges local women who have worked full-time in their current field for fewer than 10 years and successfully demonstrated their professional influence in that field through: numerous accomplishments in their field,
career growth and advancement, innovative and creative thinking and initiative at work and in the community. To nominate someone, go to <http://www.rwn.org/>.

Leadership Rochester is accepting applications for the Class of 2011. In May, the 19th class graduated from this distinguished program and joined the over 650 Alumni serving the community as informed leaders. Each year, Leadership Rochester selects an innovative group of established and emerging leaders and educates them on issues, opportunities and challenges in Rochester and Monroe County.  The Leadership Rochester program begins in September and runs through May.  Members meet monthly for a full day and cover topics such as Education, Public Safety, and Economic Development.  Each Leadership Rochester program day brings in top-level business, community, and government leaders to address challenges in their field and to participate in discussions with the class.  For an application and more information, please visit <http://www.leadershiprochester.org/> or contact <L...@leadershiprochester.org>.

Community Activities

Beyond the Motor City

Runs: June 28th
Times: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location: Dryden Theater-George Eastman House
Description: Beyond the Motor City, a new documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Woolf (King of Corn), examines how Detroit, a grim symbol of America’s diminishing status in the world, may come to represent the future of transportation and progress in America. This film is free and open to the public.

Narrated by Miles O’Brien, the film explores Detroit’s historic investments in infrastructure- from early nineteenth century canals, to an extensive streetcar system, to urban freeways, gas stations and traffic signals that gave motor city its name… and made America’s transportation system the envy of the world.

But over the last 30 years, much of the world has left Detroit-and America- behind, choosing faster, cleaner and more modern transportation. In a journey that takes us into the neighborhoods of Detroit and then beyond to Spain, California, and our nation’s capital, Beyond the Motor City urges us to ask how we might finally push America’s transportation system to the 21st century.
