Google coughed this group up so I thought I'd check it out. My name is
Rob Roche, From a long line of Roche's here in Southern California. My
Mom is doing a bit of Geneology on our end of things. So far we have
records back to a John D. Roche from the Mt Vernon (Iowa?)
area.....things get a little fuzzy as we uncover skeletons in various
closets. We are finding out we have/had relatives we never knew about!
A few names from my "tree"
Richard Roche (Father)
Winston Menzies Roche (Grandfather)
Margaret Gorman <maiden name was Roche)
John D. Roche (was apparently a big noise with the Hollywoodland sign)
Winston was apparently married at least once before to a Barbara
(Kramer? not sure on this, Mom's got the info though) and had a
daughter. This was back in the 20's or early 30's

Wiston Menzies Roche had TWO previous wives (more bones rattling in that
closet!)
First wife was Helen Lucille Hanby, who had a daughter Barbara L. Roche b. 18
May 1924
Second was Dorothy Emilia Gutenkunst, no children.
Third wife and my Grandmother was Elsye Estelle Beller

Dear Rob,
I am not an authority on this at all. But I have read an account to the effect that the de la Roches were in fact Flemish and that the Welch, English, and Irish branches descend from a man or men who landed in Wales in the 1050’s possibly called in by the Welch to defend them against the Saxons but later affiliated with the Conqueror.
I found this at http://www3.sympatico.ca/jfroache/addR.html
I myself am looking for the origin of Gilbert de la Roche of Whetham, Calne, Wiltshire who lived in the second half of the 13th century.
Sincerely yours,
Bill
