ROCHER Family

Hi all,
I am searching for the origins of Charles Alexander William ROCHER. He
was supposedly born in France in 1813. As I have no idea of area and
this date is before any form of national registration I have been
unable to find this birth. From information given in his obituary it
appears his father may have been a Joseph ROCHER, who was formerly of
the Navy, but I get the impression it may have been the British Navy
rather than the French.
Charles arrived in Van Diemen's Land, now Tasmania, Australia in 1829
with his family, however there is no identifiable ROCHER's in the BDM
records in Tasmania other than Charles and his descendants.

Any help or suggestions for furthering this search would be
appreciated

I fear that I can add nothing to your search. My ancestors were the family 'de la Roche'. There may have been a connection with Rocher, but if so I am not aware of it.
