I just started getting this error yesterday, after things were all going fine for a long time.  The error reads:

Keyword 'Capture Page Screenshot' could not be run on failure: WebDriverException: Message: unknown error: cannot get automation extension

from unknown error: page could not be found: chrome-extension://aapnijgdinlhnhlmodcfapnahmbfebeb/_generated_background_page.html

This causes all tests to fail, though it's notable that the browser does open to the right page.  The error occurs on  Selenium2Library . Maximize Browser Window .  I believe, based on some googling, that the error comes from having updated something and the selenium version no longer matching chrome.  However, I've run the following:

pip install --upgrade robotframework-selenium2library

brew upgrade chromedriver

I also confirmed that I have the most recent version of Chrome (Version 57.0.2987.133 (64-bit)).  So... at this point I'm running out of ideas.  Any thoughts from you folks?

Current specs, by the way:  chromedriver: stable 2.29

robotframework-selenium2library Version: 1.8.0

Ugh

I don't remember will the Selenium2Library update with pip also updated the dependencies. Therefore it might be worth while to do: pip install -U selenium

Also sometimes one or two versions older ChromeDriver or selenium is able to solve the problem.

Chromedriver 2.29 with selenium 3.3.3 solved the problem for me!

Just in case anyone else finds this, the issue turned out to be that I had two versions of Chromedriver, so the Brew information was giving me the wrong one.  Deleting all instances of Chromedriver and reinstalling fixed everything.

This worked for me too. Had ChromeDriver v2.24.417431, updated to 2.29.461591 and everything was fine again.
